January 17, 2014: Pune-based DSK Motowheels is finally planning to launch the much-awaited quarter-litre cruiser bike, the GV250 at the Auto Expo next month. While the model was originally scheduled to break cover last year, Shirish Kulkarni, chairman, DSK Motowheels, has now confirmed to Autocar Professional that the 249cc cruiser will make it at the upcoming expo in Delhi.
The Hyosung GV250 is powered by a four-stroke, air-cooled, 249cc, V-twin engine which produces a peak power in the range of 27bhp. With this model, Hyosung becomes the first brand to float a 250cc motorcycle in the cruiser segment in India. Bajaj Auto’s single-cylinder, 220cc, Avenger 220 DTS-i stands as the only other model which can be safely called as the only motorcycle sold in this segment currently.
However, there would be huge difference in the price points of both these models with Hysoung’s GV250 expected to be priced around Rs 2 lakh as it would be brought to India through the completely-knocked-down (CKD) route. The Bajaj Avenger currently sells in the range of Rs 77,000-Rs 80,000.
The company will also display the RT125D model at the expo, which is a dual-purpose motorcycle powered by a single-cylinder, 125cc engine. The company, however, does not plan to launch this model at the expo.
On the other hand, owing to some supply constraints, the GD250N model, which is powered by a four-stroke, liquid-cooled, 249cc, single-cylinder engine mated with a six-speed gearbox, is now postponed for the second half of 2014. It is expected that once this model breaks cover in India, it will compete with the KTM 200 Duke.
