Dow Corning makes new silicone sealant

Dow Corning has introduced a silicone sealant targeted at the Indian two-wheeler market. The new two-component sealant is used in headlight and taillight assembly, enabling two-wheeler manufacturers to enhance the stability, safety and design aspects of these vehicles. According to Dow Corning’s Arvind Jayaram, automotive industry manager, “Newer materials such as silicones allow manufacturers to explore new applications as well as improve on existing ones. Silicones offer excellent thermal stability, mechanical and corrosive resistance, and are highly compatible with other materials. These properties give silicone-based materials the ability to meet challenges ranging from mechanical to aesthetic.” “Silicone sealants are increasingly being used in headlight and taillight assembly in four-wheelers as well. Designers and engineers in India and around the world continue to rely on us for automotive products and solutions that add safety, dependability, and value to the industry,” adds Jayaram. The Dow Corning sealant is claimed to be highly resistant to heat and is durable allowing manufacturers to use higher-density bulbs in headlamp assembly. These new bulbs offer higher brightness and also have an enhanced lifespan.
