Denso tech centre opens in Gurgaon in 2012

"By establishing a technical centre and locally designing and developing products that meet market needs, we will improve our customer services and product competitiveness," said Takao Nojiri, joint managing director, Denso Sales India.

By shifting product development to India, sales and technological functions will be able to work together more closely. “This will help us to develop products more promptly and better suited to customer needs. The technical centre will first focus on the development of products for the Indian market and we will consider overseas projects in the future,” Nojiri added.

Activities at the new technical centre will include the development of automotive technologies for powertrains, electric and electronic systems, information and safety systems, and small motors. When the technical centre starts operations in early 2012, it will have approximately 50 people. The company plans to ramp up to the number of employees to approximately 70 by 2015.

Denso’s major customers include Maruti Suzuki, Toyota and Hero Honda. Denso says it wants like to expand its sales to customers such as Tata Motors and Mahindra & Mahindra, as well as to the major motorcycle manufacturers such as Bajaj Auto and TVS Motor Company.

With the Tech Centre, Denso joins a host of other foreign companies which have set up similar operations in India.
