Delphi-TVS aims to   double revenues by 2012.

Delphi–TVS announced at the Auto Expo that it will double revenues to about Rs 1,000 crore over the next three years. Since inception about two decades ago, the company has been supplying fuel injection system components including rotary pumps to a host of vehicle manufacturers. From last April, it commenced supply of common-rail systems including pumps, injectors.

The company has won contracts from both Indian and global customers and will be supplying fuel injection system for a wide range of applications including passenger cars, utility vehicles, light, and M&HCVs. Besides, it will be supplying to two- and three-cylinder applications in small vehicle engines. Currently the company is supplying fuel injection systems that can meet Euro 4 and 5 emission standards. It is also working on developing systems which will meet future emission standards including Euro 6 and Euro 7. Delphi Diesel Systems, through its innovative technology, has won, over several years, many contracts from leading global players including Daimler, Hyundai, PSA, Renault and Volkswagen. As these customers are already in India,

Delphi expects a robust demand for its Indian joint venture as well. According to T K Balaji, managing director, the company expects a turnover of Rs 500 crore in 2009-10 and hopes to double that in three years. It is in the process of investing Rs 350 crore in setting up a plant in Oragadam, about 40km south of Chennai, which is emerging as a hub for automotive players. The marketing director (diesel system sales) of Delphi Powertrain Division, Francois van der Wielen, said India along with China has recovered fast from the recession of last year. “We are also sure that India will set new records in 2010,” he said.

Delphi-TVS has set up a technical centre to carry out research and development work. Currently it has 100 engineers and the centre has also been responsible for developing Unit Pump Common Rail (UPCR) system. With its fastest solenoid injectors UPCR is well suited for Indian market and its future emission levels. “The 100 engineers are the seed that we planted,” and with active support from Delphi Europe the centre in India will help Delphi to quickly respond to the customers around the world. “The Nano taught us not just low cost but to offer higher technology at affordable cost,” he said. Asked if Delphi is looking at options to make the Indian JV as a hub for any variety of fuel injection systems, the vice-president of Delphi Powertrain Systems, Ronald M Pirtle said when the developed markets such as the US and Europe graduate to Euro 5 and 6 emission norms, few markets including those in the Eastern Europe and Africa will continue with Euro 4 for some more time. By then globally Delphi would have followed the developed markets and supply systems accordingly. Thus, there will be an opportunity for fuel injection systems that comply with Euro 4 norms and the Indian JV could be a probable contender, he said.
