Delhi government exempts certain cars from speed governor
The speed governors are exempted from some of the listed vehicles as the speed governors suitable for them are not available in the market currently.
In a recent notification released by the transport department of the Government of Delhi, certain vehicles of several companies have been exempted from the fitment of speed governor.
The government says the exemption will stand for a period of six months or till the time, the concerned speed governors of at least two or three manufacturers are available in the market.
The Central Motor Vehicles Rules, 1989 were amended by the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) on May 1, 2017, mandating fitment of speed governor in certain categories of transport vehicle. However, under the provision of section 110 (3) (b) of the Motor Vehicle Act which was later issued on December 21, 2017 by MoRTH, the State has the power to exempt any motor vehicle of any class from this rule until the speed governors of at least two or three manufacturers are available at the competitive rates, for fitment by the transport vehicle owners.
On this basis, the Delhi government has released a list of vehicles that are exempted from the requirement of the fitment of a speed governor.
