Coming up: Bajaj Auto’s sport commuter bike

Bajaj will launch an all-new motorcycle, the first of several to be introduced in 2009. Targeted at the ‘sport commuter’ segment, this motorcycle will be available nationally at all Bajaj dealers and is intended to further Bajaj’s leadership in the 125 cc+ segment.

The bike maker says it will launch a sports commuter motorcycle, the Bajaj XCD 135 DTS-Si on 21 January 2009. Though meant for regular use, this bike will be sporty both in its performance and in its styling.

Aimed at the mid-market or the value segment, it will have many first-in-class features like a 135cc DTS-Si engine, a five-speed gearbox, auto choke, gas-filled Nitrox shock absorbers, digital speedometer and LED taillamps. Other significant features include electricstart and front disc brake.

The XCD 135 DTS-Si will be manufactured in Waluj. Production for the fist month will be 8,000 units and will be increased thereafter.

Bajaj Auto reported a 55.39 percent drop in December 2008 bike sales at 61,546 units as compared to 1,37,980 units in the same month the previous year.
