CII moots CAD-CAM,  CAE for speedy design

The Confederation of Indian Industry's (CII) LM Thapar Centre for Competitiveness for SMEs has been taking initiatives to promote new product development tools. Its seminar in Mumbai held on December 16 -17, 2008 emphasised the application of CAD, CAM, RP and CAE in R&D, electronics and engineering functions. The seminar was attended by experts as well as professionals seeking job opportunities in this sector.

The second day of the seminar on new product development tools like CAD-CAM-RP-CAE, saw participants talk about the use of computer aided tools to speed the designing process. Ritesh Kumar Jain, manager - CAE (Crash/Safety) IDAM Centre, Mahindra & Mahindra, spoke about the increasing usage of CAD-CAM in the automotive sector.

According to Jain, “Advance engineering services and software developments help to translate the customer’s needs into product development efforts by using all leading CAD-CAM-RP-CAE software like CAE for SUV structural crashworthiness and making continuous innovation in design that would yield cost-effective operations.”

Amitabh Choudhary, director, Timetooth Technologies LLC, said: “Data acquisition, dynamics, structural ability and vehicle load form an essential part of vehicle designing, taking into consideration the safety of the vehicle.”
