Honda Siel Cars India (HSCI), the Indian-arm of Honda Motor Co, has resumed normal car production from February 17 after witnessing lower output since November last year due to the Thailand floods that resulted a shortage in the supply of components. Honda has started acquiring critical components from Japan and China in order to normalise production at the Greater Noida plant. The Japanese manufacturer aims to manufacture 370 cars a day in a two-shift operation which will increase to 440 cars soon.
As many as 1,500 units of the updated City have rolled out of the Greater Noida facility. Production of the recently launched Brio hatchback has also resumed while the Jazz started rolling out by the end of February. Honda had stopped production of the Brio due to a shortage in the supply of components.
“We are delighted to announce that we have resumed a two-shift operation from today. We are confident to achieve peak production output in March 2012. Honda has been carefully monitoring the part supply process and has taken all the necessary recovery actions to normalise the production situation with critical components now being sourced from Japan & China,” said HSCI senior vice-president (marketing & sales) Jnaneswar Sen.
“Our top priority at the moment is to reduce the backlog and closely work with our dealers to ensure prompt deliveries. We are hopeful to clear most of the current Brio bookings within March 2012 and deliver cars to these waiting customers. We will also be launching a comprehensive communication campaign to communicate the Brio's availability,” he added.
