Bajaj Auto's strong show in June, clocks robust Q1 numbers
Two-wheeler major's performance indicates return of demand in the domestic market, while exports remain a strong growth driver.
Pune-based Bajaj Auto has delivered a strong performance in June 2021, both in the domestic and export markets.
With the lockdowns opening across various states in India, domestic two-wheeler volumes were 155,640 units in June 2021, a 6% uptick over year-ago numbers. In fact, they are 702 units more than the exports of 154,938 motorcycles last month. While June exports (154,938) were a strong 43% growth over year-ago figures, they are below May 2021’s 180,212 units.
Cumulative Q1 FY2022 (April-June 2021) numbers point to a recovery in overall sales and indicate speedier growth in the months ahead. At 342,552 units, domestic sales were a 84% increase over year-ago numbers (Q1 FY2021: 185,981), understandable given that FY2021’s first quarter was hugely impacted by the pandemic and the widespread lockdowns across the country.
Two-wheeler exports at 556,753 units are a 160% improvement over Q1 FY2021 and remain a strong buffer to the company in the event of the domestic market faltering.
