Bajaj Auto, India’s second largest two-wheeler maker, is likely to set up its fourth plant in Gujarat. The plant reportedly will have an annual production capacity of five million units and will see an investment of Rs. 1,000 crore. The new plant will produce the much talked about four-wheeler from Bajaj Auto.
Top company officials are likely to meet Gujarat government officials during this month to finalise the plan.
Currently, Bajaj Auto has a cumulative annual production capacity of five million units from its plants in Aurangabad, Chakan and Pantnagar.
Of late, Gujarat has become a preferred destination for automobile majors to set up manufacturing facilities. Tata Motors set up its Nano plant in Sanand. Maruti Suzuki and Ford India are now looking at Gujarat as the destination to expand its production footprint. General Motors, Asia MotorWorks and Atul Auto already have manufacturing facilities in Gujarat.
