Bajaj Auto’s sales fall 3 percent, net profits up 1 percent
May 16, 2013: Bajaj Auto has declared its 2012-13 results. It announced that it had recorded the highest ever turnover at Rs 20,793 crore, up three percent over year-earlier fiscal of Rs 20,137 crore. Profits before tax rose six percent to Rs 4,266 crore while PAT increased just one percent to 3,0044 crore.

It announced that it had recorded the highest ever turnover at Rs 20,793 crore, up three percent over year-earlier fiscal of Rs 20,137 crore. Profits before tax rose six percent to Rs 4,266 crore while PAT increased just one percent to 3,0044 crore.
In terms of numbers, the company sold 42,37,162 units as against 43,49,560 units, a three percent fall for two-wheelers and CVs.
Sales of bikes in the domestic market fell four percent to 24,63,874 units as against 25,66,757 units in 2011-12. The company said its Pulsar brand continues to be a segment leader accounting for a 48 percent market share. A year since its launch, the Discover 125 ST sold 1.5 million units. The Discover T sold 80,000 units since its launch in January 2013.
The KTM Duke sold 7,000 units locally and 18,000 overseas.
On the exports front, the units of bikes sold went up two percent to 12,93,231 units as against 12,67,648 units in the year-earlier period. In Africa, the Boxer bike is the largest selling brand. The company remains India’s largest exporter of motorcycles and three-wheelers.
In the CV segment, Bajaj Auto’s sales rose 11 percent to 226,131 units as against 202,979 units in the previous year. Exports of CVs, affected by import restrictions in neighbouring Sri Lanka, fell 19 percent to 235,926 units.
On other fronts, Bajaj Auto is awaiting clearance of the government’s quadricycle policy in order to be able to launch its RE 60. The norms are in the process of being devised and a committee has been appointed for the purpose.
