Allison sets up new customisation centre

Allison sets up new customisation centre

Allison Transmission, supplier of commercial vehicle transmissions, has set up a customisation centre under contract with Capricorn Logistics. This new facility will manage and provide 3PL services for its upcoming plant in Chennai. These include warehousing, packaging, distribution, logistics and other value-added solutions. The facility situated north of Chennai will cater to the Indian market. Transmission parts and support equipment will be imported from the Netherlands, the USA, and will also be procured locally.

Allison is currently setting up a manufacturing plant south of Chennai, which will be a 100 percent Export Oriented Unit and is presently under construction. The company broke ground on this facility in January 2009. According to Ram S Amarnath, managing director, Allison Transmission India, “We have a longstanding relationship with India. In order to service our customers better in India, which is one of our key markets. We are happy to announce the setting up of this new customisation centre. Allison Transmission has teamed with Capricorn Logistics, due to its understanding of the Indian market and its ability to create infrastructure and supply manpower within a short time."

He added, "We believe that Capricorn will add value to our supply chain by integrating local practices with international ones so that the process is seamless and Allison Transmission gets the same level of competence here in India as it does internationally.”

Capricorn says that it is looking forward to a mutually beneficial long-term relation with Allison Transmission India.

According to Datta Bhonsle, CEO, supply chain vertical, Capricorn, “Allison choosing Capricorn as its partner is a matter of great pride for us and also an acknowledgement of the inherent strengths and advantages that Capricorn will provide to MNC companies like Allison Transmission that are seeking local competence in the Indian supply chain industry.”
