AACOTY trophy presented to Audi at Beijing

April 25: The opening day of Auto China 2012 in Beijing – April 23 – saw the trophy handover ceremony of the first Autocar Asian Car of the Year award to the winning car: the Audi A6. The trophy was presented to Peter Schwarzenbauer, Board Member for Marketing and Sales at Audi AG, by the Autocar Asian Car of the Year Judge’s chairman and editor of Autocar India, Hormazd Sorabjee.

Mr Schwarzenbauer commented, “We are very pleased to have won this award especially as it has been voted for by so many senior editors at Autocar in Asia.”

The Audi A6 was selected as the winner from a list of 45 cars, with six of these making the final cut. The other five finalists were the Volkswagen Jetta, Volkswagen Passat, Kia Sportage, Ford Fiesta saloon and the Volvo S60. The winner was chosen by a panel of 18 auto experts from each edition of Autocar published in the Asian region.

Autocar publisher, Alastair Lewis said; “We would like to thank all the members of our Autocar family in the region for participating in this the first Autocar Asian Car of the Year and look forward to developing the project for 2013 and beyond.”

Also present at the ceremony where some of the judges of the Autocar Asian Car of the Year and Dynaudio, the sponsors of the award.

The Autocar Asian Car of the Year is a unique editorial cooperate initiative between the editors of the nine editions of Autocar magazine published across Asia in China, India, Indonesia, Japan, Korea, Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam and the only multi-market award of its kind in Asia. The award was backed-up by wide-ranging coverage in the magazines and online.
