Built-in-India Range Rover Evoque to cost Rs 48.73 lakh

Jaguar Land Rover has announced that the Range Rover Evoque SUV has been added to its locally manufactured (assembled) model portfolio. The Evoque will now be the fourth vehicle to be made at the Pune plant and joins the Land Rover Freelander 2, Jaguar XF and XJ.

This move is part of Jaguar Land Rover’s plans to expand its manufacturing footprint globally, increasing its production capacity outside of the UK. Production at the Pune plant has tripled since its inauguration in 2011.

Importantly, there are huge cost savings to be had from the move to local assembly operations. The built-in-india Range Rover Evoque is now a whopping Rs 10 lakh cheaper! The locally assembled Range Rover Evoque now ducks below the Rs 50 lakh mark and gets more equipment too.

Commenting on the decision to make the Evoque in India, Rohit Suri, president of Jaguar Land Rover India, said: “We believe India is a market that offers significant opportunities for both the Jaguar and Land Rover brands. The Range Rover Evoque is already very popular with Indian customers and we will now offer this SUV at an even more competitive price point starting at Rs 48.73 lakh, ex-showroom Mumbai (Pre-Octroi). Our investment in the Pune facility demonstrates our continued long-term commitment to the Indian market.”

The Evoque will be available with a 2.2-litre SD4 diesel engine, which develops maximum power of 187bhp at 3500rpm and torque of 420 Nm at 2000rpm. It will be offered in three variants: Pure (Rs 48.73 lakh), Dynamic (Rs 52.40 lakh) and Prestige (Rs 56.21 lakh).

All variants come with an automatic transmission and include standard features like front and rear parking sensors with rear view camera, navigation system, fixed panoramic sunroof and Land Rover’s state-of-the-art terrain response system.

The locally assembled Range Rover Evoque is now available for sale with deliveries expected to begin from early April 2015.

According to Jaguar Land Rover, India is among its top 20 markets globally with sales increasing by 20 percent in the past three years. During this time, the dealer network has increased to 22 outlets across 20 major cities across India.
