Yamaha opens R&D centre in Indonesia, its second in ASEAN

Yamaha Motor Co has launched PT Yamaha Motor R&D Indonesia (YMRID), a new motorcycle development base in Indonesia designed to further strengthen functionality for its ASEAN Integrated Development Center that carries out product development for the ASEAN markets.

The newly opened YMRID has been set up within the motorcycle manufacturing facility of Yamaha Indonesia Motor Manufacturing in Jakarta. It will carry out product development to meet user requirements in the ASEAN markets with development for models that require exterior changes, colour and graphic upgrades, and cost innovation alongside the Thailand- based Yamaha Motor Asian Center Co (YMAC).

The new unit will help provide increased synergies within the region. While Yamaha Motor co, Japan works on foundation technology and technological strategies including core technologies and advanced technologies, it is looking to enhance product development through setting up local bases near specific markets.

Yamaha says the strengthened functionality provided by the Indonesian and Thailand bases of the ASEAN Integrated Development Center, along with other R&D bases in Italy, India, China, and Taiwan will further promote monozukuri on a global scale with the encompassing of manufacturing, purchasing, and technology.

Monozukuri implies a state of being that incorporates producing excellent products (or services) while constantly improving the overall production system and its processes. Monozukuri is the development of conscientious manufacturers.
