The Volkswagen Passenger Cars brand has delivered almost two million vehicles for the first time in the first four months of a year. Around 1.99 million (January-April 2013: 1.91m) vehicles were handed over to customers in the period to April, representing an increase of 4.6 percent.

The company delivered 513,400 (April 2013: 480,900; +6.8 percent) units in April. “Volkswagen Passenger Cars grew deliveries yet again in April. On the one hand that is due to good sales developments in China and Europe, and on the other it is attributable to sustained high demand for products such as the Golf, now in the seventh generation of its 40-year history, where the success story continues,” said Christian Klingler, Board Member for Sales and Marketing for the Volkswagen Group and the Volkswagen Passenger Cars brand. “However, the global market is still a mixed bag and therefore remains challenging,” Klingler added.

Volkswagen Passenger Cars delivered 567,800 (545,300; +4.1 percent) vehicles on the overall European market in the first four months, of which 298,400 (279,300; +6.8 percent) were handed over in Western Europe (excluding Germany). Deliveries in the home market of Germany rose slightly to 184,100 (180,500; +2.0 percent) units.

Developments in the Central and Eastern Europe region in the period to April were stable, with deliveries running at 85,300 (85,500; -0.2 percent) units. The company handed over 45,800 (49,500; -7.4 percent) vehicles to customers in Russia during the same period.

In the Asia-Pacific region, sales were up 16.2 percent in the January-April 2014 period, comprising g over 993,400 (855,100) vehicles. 921,400 (783,900; +17.5 percent) models were delivered in China (including Hong Kong) during the same period.

In India, sales for January-April 2014 totalled 14,392 units, down nearly 40 percent on the 23,802 units sold in January-April 2013.

The carmaker delivered 182,700 (196,200; -6.9 percent) vehicles in the North America region in the period to April, of which 118,200 (131,800; -10.4 percent) models were sold in the US.
