Volvo Group’s Olof Persson appointed co-chairman of UN Advisory Group on sustainable transport
Olof Persson, president and CEO of the Volvo Group, will take up the position as co-chairman when United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon assembles a high-level advisory group on sustainable transport.
Olof Persson, president and CEO of the Volvo Group, will take up the position as co-chairman when United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon assembles a high-level advisory group on sustainable transport. The advisory group, consisting of 12 members, is to provide recommendations on sustainable transport actionable at global, national and local levels.
"I feel honoured. This is an exciting, but also challenging assignment," says Olof Persson, president and CEO of the Volvo Group. "My ambition is to contribute with concrete actions towards social, economic and environmental sustainable transport solutions."
The aim of the Advisory Group is to promote accelerated implementation of sustainable transport, aligned closely with the UN objectives of inclusive and equitable growth, social development, protection of the global environment and ecosystems, and addressing climate change.
The Advisory Group is expected to submit a progress report to the Secretary-General in the second half of 2015.
