The Toshiba TB9103FTG, a gate driver IC for automotive brushed DC motors.

Toshiba Electronic Devices & Storage Corporation has begun providing engineering samples of the ‘TB9103FTG, a gate driver IC used in automotive brushed DC motors (including latch motors for power backdoors and power slide doors and locking motors, and drive motors for power windows and power seats.

Most of the automotive components that were previously operated manually are now electrified, increasing the demand for electronic motors and the number of motors in cars. The number of drivers used in motors has also increased, accelerating the movement to miniaturize and integrate the entire system. In addition, there are areas where the motor is used that does not require rotational speed control, and here a driver with simple functions and performance is required.

The TB9103FTG provides flexible gate driver functionality and performance for a brushed DC motor that does not require speed control, enabling a more compact design. The TB9103FTG has a built-in charge pump circuit that secures the voltage needed to power the external MOSFET to drive the motor. It is also equipped with a gate monitoring function that automatically controls the gate signal output timing of high-side and low-side external MOSFETs to prevent the generation of penetrating current.

The new IC can also be used as a one-channel H-bridge or a two-channel half-bridge. The TB9103FTG is not only applied as a motor driver, but also can be combined with external MOSFETs to replace mechanical relays and other mechanical switches, enabling quiet operation and contributing to the improvement of equipment reliability.

The TB9103FTG is mounted in the 4.0mm×4.0mm P-VQFN24-0404-0.50-003 package, making it easy to miniaturize the equipment.
