Suzuki unveils new 150cc motorcycles for ASEAN market

Suzuki Motor Corporation’s Indonesian subsidiary PT Suzuki Indomobil Motor (SIM) has unveiled new motorcycle models for the ASEAN region – the GSX-R150 and GSX-S150.

The two new motorcycles were revealed at the Indonesia Motorcycle Show which is being held in Jakarta, Indonesia from November 2-6, 2016.

The ASEAN region, where typically motorcycles are used for daily transportation, is seeing growing demand for sports model. To meet market requirements, Suzuki has been exporting large displacement models such as the Hayabusa from Japan.

However, to cater to a wider range of user needs, small displacement sportbikes like the GSX-R150 and the GSX-S150 are to be introduced as step-up models and also enhance brand presence in the ASEAN region.

Suzuki will produce the GSX-R150 and the GSX-S150 at the SIM plant and launch them in the Indonesian domestic market in early 2017, eventually followed by launch within the ASEAN region.

The GSX-R150 is an all-new model in the supersport bike GSX-R series. The bike is powered by a 147.3cc water-cooled four-valve single-cylinder DOHC engine installed in a light and compact chassis. Keyless ignition system (offered for the high grade model) and the Suzuki Easy Start System, which enables the rider to just one-push the starter instead of press-holding it to start the engine, are employed on this model. The GSX-S150, an all-new model in the street sportbike GSX-S series, also uses the same engine.
