Suzuki has unveiled the production version of its iM-4 concept car at the Tokyo motor show.

The production car, which will take the Ignis name in Japan, has already been confirmed for UK sale but a timescale and badge for the car in this country have yet to be decided.

Suzuki says the Ignis compact crossover “shows how a compact car can straddle the boundary between daily life and leisure.”

Although the Japanese firm hasn’t released details of the car’s powertrain, the iM-4 concept featured a 1.2-litre petrol engine as part of a mild hybrid set-up.

The conceptual version also offered four-wheel drive, and was based on a new lightweight platform which was claimed to improve handling and increase rigidity.

Suzuki has also shown an off-road-inspired version of the Ignis in Tokyo. Dubbed the Trail Concept, the car features body cladding, larger wheels and extended wheel arches, as well as roof rails.

Two further concepts are also on display, the Mighty Deck kei car and the Air Triser MPV.

The Japanese carmaker is further expected to showcase the recently launched Baleno, Hustler Scooe and the new Escudo SUV among others.
