The Mahindra Group-owned SsangYong has revealed an extended-range electric version of its new Tivoli SUV, an intended rival for the likes of the Nissan Juke and Renault Captur, at the Geneva Motor Show.

The Tivoli EVR concept is powered by a 127bhp electric motor. It also features a single-cylinder petrol range extender that is used to recharge the battery.

The Korean manufacturer says the Tivoli EVR has an electric range of up to 80 miles/130 kilometres, which can be extended to 310 miles/500 km with the help of the engine. The concept has a top speed of 93mph/150kph and emits just 40g/km of CO2.

Although SsangYong says the EVR is merely a concept, its creation has raised hopes that an electric or hybrid Tivoli might go on sale before long. The original SsangYong XLV concept, which was revealed in Geneva last year and closely previewed the Tivoli, featured a diesel-electric hybrid powertrain.

The regular Tivoli will come with a 1.6-litre petrol or 1.6-litre diesel engine when it goes on sale in May in Europe. In its greenest form, the Tivoli emits 109g/km of CO2.
