SMGW launches all new Baojun 310 hatchback in China

SAIC-GM-Wuling (SGMW) has launched its latest product from the fast-growing Baojun brand – the 310 hatchback.

Featuring a youthful and modern appearance, the Baojun 310 offers segment-leading technology along with a spacious and functional interior that is coupled with an efficient powertrain to meet the demands of car buyers throughout China. Available in four variants, the Baojun 310 is priced between RMB 36,800 (Rs 3.74 lakh) and RMB 49,800 (Rs 5 lakh).

SGMW says the Baojun 310’s 2550mm wheelbase is the longest among hatchbacks in its class, providing a spacious ride for those in front and back. Its rear seat has a width of 1233 mm. The Baojun 310 also has 200 litres of trunk space. Its 4/6 split-folding rear seats have a flat-folding function, allowing for up to 1,000 litres of flexible cargo space to accommodate bulky items.

The Baojun 310 has a youthful, modern exterior. Its double-U-shaped front end carries forward the brand’s traditional styling. The U-shaped upper grille is complemented by an inverted U-shaped lower grille, for a vivid visual effect. Its sharp dual beltlines together with its sleek body exude a sense of strength, while its rear end is rugged yet refined.

The interior adopts a new style that is both simple and functional in line with the needs of users. An all-black centre console and dual-color leather seats combine to add to the dynamic feeling. The hatchback also comes with a power sunroof along with 18 storage spaces.

Comfort and safety technology

One of the Baojun 310's most prominent features is a high-resolution 8-inch LCD screen on top of its centre console integrated with Bluetooth.

On the safety front, the Baojun 310 gets cruise control and four airbags, features never before offered in a hatchback priced below RMB 50,000 (Rs 5 lakh) in China. Other product highlights are Electric Power Steering (EPS), rearview mirrors with a heating function, a reverse radar and backup camera, GPS navigation, ISOFIX child safety seat mountings, and anti-lock brakes with electronic brakeforce distribution.

Efficient 1.2-litre powertrain

SGMW's newly developed 1.2-litre naturally aspirated engine generates maximum power of 60.3 kW and maximum torque of 116 Nm at 3600rpm, along with fuel economy of 5.3L/100km.

Baojun has been among the fastest-growing vehicle brands in China since its introduction in 2010. Last year, Baojun delivered a record 463,532 vehicles. Sales remained strong in the first eight months of 2016, with deliveries rising 71.3 percent on an annual basis to 382,815 units.
