Porsche, the Stuttgart-based sports car manufacturer, has sold over 87,800 new cars to customers worldwide in the first six months of 2014. Compared to January to June 2013, sales rose by almost eight percent. In the first half of the year, the new Panamera Gran Turismo saw high demand and around 13,500 units were sold, representing a rise of 28 percent year on year.
“We can look back on a very successful first six months of 2014, despite sometimes volatile economic conditions and vastly different trends on individual automotive markets,” said Bernhard Maier, member of the Executive Board Sales and marketing of Porsche AG. “With our present model line-up, we are well positioned to face current challenges. In the second half of the year, we will keep our foot on the accelerator with the worldwide launch of the Macan and other model innovations.”
In the first six months of 2014, Porsche increased sales in all key regions. There was a particularly strong response from European customers. The number of units sold in this region rose by 14 percent to almost 30,000 units. In the United States, the company sold 23,000 cars, posting a growth of eight percent YoY. In China, Porsche achieved the same increase of eight percent, with 19,800 cars being handed over to customers in the first half of the year.
The Cayenne range saw the majority of global sales with 37,200 units, followed by the 911 model series with 15,615 units sold.
