Panasonic begins production and shipment of Li-Ion batteries from China plant
Panasonic develops the ‘18650’ cells for EV maker Tesla which uses them for its Models S and X cars.
Panasonic has started supplying prismatic-type automotive lithium-ion batteries globally from its factory in Dalian, China.
With the increase in environmental awareness in recent years, the demand for eco-conscious vehicles, including hybrids, plug-in hybrids, and electric vehicles has increased exponentially. Accordingly, Panasonic has started production at its Dalian facility, which is the first production site for prismatic-type automotive lithium-ion batteries in China. The batteries are shipped to North American and Chinese markets.
Panasonic has set up the facility with 500 employees with an investment of RMB 900 million (Rs 926 crore). Panasonic develops the ‘18650’ cells (cylindrically shaped lithium-ion batteries) for EV maker Tesla that uses them for its Models S and X cars.
