Mahindra Automotive North America (MANA), Mahindra & Mahindra's subsidiary in the US, which is currently rolling out over 30 units of the Mahindra Roxor off-roader every day from its Auburn Hills, Michigan plant, has begun assembly of a Roxor with an automatic transmission. The market launch of the Roxor A/T is slated to happen soon and will help give a fillip to sales of the vehicle in the American market

It is understood the first units with the automatic transmission are in the process of reaching North American dealerships. Leaked images, as depicted above, suggest the Roxor will use a torque convertor automatic gearbox; however, there is little information on the supplier of the automatic transmission.

The Roxor, which is essentially a Mahindra Thar-based utility vehicle, is retailed in the USA as a side-by-side or UV in the North American market in and is classified as an off-highway vehicle in the US). Additionally, Mahindra will also supply the vehicle to the US Federal Postal Service. The

The Roxor features a steel body on a boxed steel frame. It is powered by a 64hp, 2.5-litre four-cylinder diesel engine and was initially available with a five-speed manual gearbox and standard 4WD gear. Addition of an automatic gearbox will add to the Roxor’s appeal in the market that mostly consists of rivals that come with automatic gearboxes.

The two-seat Roxor gets a few customisation options straight from the factory. However, everything from the exterior and interior colours, safari seats and back seats and ride heights to the hard tops, winches and side enclosures will be offered with a high level of personalisation. In fact, buyers will be able to select from over 900 paint shades.

The Roxor MT is priced at US$ 15,499 (about Rs 10.1 lakh), so expect MANA to price the Roxor AT to be priced a tad more. Stay tuned for more details on the new Roxor once it is officially launched.

On May 4, 2019, Autocar Professional had reported that Mahindra Automotive North America is looking to set up a second manufacturing plant in Michigan. MANA, as is known, has been selected to deliver NGDV (Next Generation Delivery Vehicle) prototype vehicles for testing for the US Postal Services.
