Made-in-India Jimny unveiled in Japan ahead of April 3 launch

The ‘Made-in-India’ Jimny five-door SUV has been unveiled in Japan today, where it bears the Jimny Nomade name. Suzuki Motor Corporation will officially launch the Jimny Nomade on April 3 in Japan.

The Jimny five-door, which was first showcased at the Auto Expo 2023 in India, is currently the second most exported model from Maruti Suzuki in FY2025, after the Fronx compact SUV.

The Jimny five-door is exclusively manufactured at Maruti Suzuki’s plant in Gurugram, Haryana. It has a strong legacy as a global off-roader and is exported to almost 100 countries. The introduction of the popular 4WD SUV in Japan marks an important step in Maruti Suzuki’s export journey as it becomes the second SUV after the made-in-India Fronx SUV to be supplied to the home market of Suzuki Motor Corporation in FY2025. Exports of the Fronx to Japan began in August 2024.

In the first nine months of FY2025, Maruti Suzuki has shipped 48,491 units of the Fronx and 38,716 units of the Jimny.  These two SUVs’ combined export of 87,207 units accounts for 74% of the 1,18,264 utility vehicles Maruti Suzuki has exported in April-December 2024.

Hisashi Takeuchi, Managing Director & CEO, Maruti Suzuki India, said: "The introduction of ‘Made in India’ Jimny 5-door in Japan is a testament to the global level of excellence in our manufacturing capability. It is our second model to be exported to Japan in this fiscal year (FY2024-25) after Fronx in August 2024. Jimny is the second most exported Maruti Suzuki car in FY2024-25^. After its resounding success in markets like Mexico, Australia, and South Africa, we are confident that it will delight customers in Japan. The export of Jimny reaffirms our commitment towards ‘Make-in-India for the world’.”

Maruti Suzuki, India’s No. 1 passenger vehicle exporter, shipped over 323,000 vehicles to around 100 countries in CY2024. The company has a 43.5% share of India’s total passenger vehicle exports in CY2024.

MARUTI SUZUKI SET TO BE No. 1 PV EXPORTER FOR FOURTH FISCAL IN A ROW
In the current fiscal year, Maruti Suzuki India has exported 245,642 vehicles between April and December 2024, up 21% YoY (April-December 2023: 202,786). This is already 87.50% of its record export sales of 280,712 units in FY2024 and ensures that the car, SUV and MPV manufacturer is well set to retain the title of ‘India’s top PV exporter’ for the fourth fiscal year in a row. Maruti Suzuki’s exports comprise 1,21,286 cars (down 18% YoY), 118,264 UVs (up 140% YoY) and 6,092 vans (up 9% YoY).

If it maintains the same growth rate, Maruti Suzuki, which currently has a 43% PV export market share, could end FY2025 with best-ever exports in the region of 325,000 units.
