Kia teases upcoming EV9 SUV ahead of March 15 unveiling

Kia Corporation today unveiled a set of video clips to tease its upcoming Kia EV9, the brand’s dedicated battery electric SUV.

The Kia EV9 flagship SUV, which is slated for a global reveal on March 15, is set to accelerate the company’s transformation into a sustainable mobility solutions provider in the era of electrification.

The Kia EV9 teaser video and images showcase a silhouette of the flagship SUV model, featuring its prominent front and sleek body surfaces. The striking lighting patterns created by the front and rear lamps complete the EV9’s bold identity.

The name, EV9, comes from Kia's EV nomenclature, pairing the prefix ‘EV’ (electric vehicle) with the number ‘9’ (nine), which represents the model’s segment among Kia’s dedicated electric vehicle line-up.

Like the Kia EV6, the Kia EV9 is built upon the company’s dedicated battery electric vehicle platform, Electric Global Modular Platform (E-GMP).

Kia will fully reveal both the exterior and interior design in mid-March, and the product information will be fully disclosed during the Kia EV9 World Premiere in late March.

The EV9 concept was first revealed at the Los Angeles Motor Show in November 2021, indicating Kia’s aim to drive itself further into premium territory.

Less than a year later, in August 2022, Kia revealed details of the EV9’s final intensive testing program ahead of its world debut this year. Developed over a period of 44 months "to set new standards in design, performance, range, driving dynamics, technology and comfort," every facet of the EV9 was pushed to the limits of durability at Kia’s global Namyang R&D centre in Korea.

During this final testing phase, the EV9 was relentlessly subjected to a gruelling verification program on a 4WD climbing hill and a rough terrain track, as well as a deep-water wading test, to ensure maximum reliability even in the most challenging conditions. According to the company, its high-speed, handling, and low-friction tracks place every element of the EV9’s performance and roadholding under the strictest scrutiny.
