Suzuki Motor Corporation has released the first official images of the Baleno hatchback. Earlier known as the iK-2 internationally and as the YRA in India, the new hatchback is set to slot in above the Swift in Suzuki’s line-up in India and internationally.

The Baleno’s overall styling is similar to the iK-2 concept unveiled at the Geneva Motor Show this March. At the front, the grille and headlamps are similar to those seen on the concept, although the headlamp units get different internal detailing on the production model. The front bumper has been redesigned with a narrower, less-aggressive air dam and fog lamps placed on either edge. On the flanks, the wing mirrors are also more in line with the production model, while the wheels are different from the concept.

There are no details about the car’s dimensions yet, but expect it to be similar to the concept. Details of the interiors are also unknown, but it is likely that the Indian version will come equipped with Maruti’s SmartPlay infotainment system.

Powering the new Suzuki is a new 1.0-litre Boosterjet direct injection turbocharged unit, expected to be launched in the Indian car as well. The Indian version could also be powered by the 1.2-litre K-series petrol and 1.3-litre DDiS diesel motors.

The Suzuki Baleno is expected to be launched globally early next year. However, when the hatchback makes its way to India, it could come with a completely different name.
