Great Wall Motors deploys BorgWarner’s eDM for its new EVs

Featuring a compact and lightweight design, BorgWarner’s eDM claimed to improve efficiency and provide a comfortable driving experience for hybrid or pure electric vehicles.

China’s leading automaker Great Wall Motors and its ORA brand are using BorgWarner’s high-performance electric drive module (eDM) for the 2018 C30 electric vehicle (EV).

The 2018 C30 is the first EV model in China equipped with BorgWarner’s eDM technology. Unveiled at Auto China 2018 in Beijing, GWM’s new brand ORA is the automaker’s strategic EV brand for new energy vehicle market.

With the integrated design of the electric motor and eGearDrive transmission, BorgWarner says its eDM enables weight, cost and space savings in addition to easy installation, significantly improving efficiency to meet growing demand for power and comfort from electric vehicles.

“With the launch of the credit-score system that encourages a shift to new-energy vehicles in April this year, we anticipate flourishing growth in China’s EV market amid the electrification trend of the broader auto industry,” said Dr. Stefan Demmerle, president and general manager, BorgWarner PowerDrive Systems. “In addition to a wide variety of new technologies in electric motors and control modules, we offer localized production of our innovative products to provide our customers with tailored solutions and fast service at the right value.”

Integrating its industry-leading eGearDrive transmission and high voltage hairpin (HVH) electric motor technology, BorgWarner’s eDM provides primary or secondary propulsion for pure electric or hybrid vehicles. Featuring a high-precision gear train and aluminum housing with simplified components, the eDM’s compact and lightweight design balances power, torque, volume and efficiency.

The electric motor delivers up to 315 Nm of torque with maximum operational speeds of up to 10,600rpm. The advanced eDM provides vehicles with superior motor and transmission efficiency, excellent torque output and acoustic performance, and enables a quiet and smooth driving experience for drivers and passengers.
