GM records flat sales in China in April

The Chevrolet Cruze sold 19,836 units in April in China.

General Motors and its joint ventures sold 258,484 vehicles last month in China, down 0.4 percent year over year.

Domestic sales by SAIC-GM-Wuling were up 10.2 percent year on year to 139,041 units. Shanghai GM’s domestic sales were down 6.7 percent to 119,032 units. Starting with April, GM is reporting retail deliveries rather than wholesales in China.

Buick sales in the domestic market decreased 8.5 percent on an annual basis in April to 63,307 units. Shanghai GM’s most popular brand was led by the Excelle XT and GT, which had sales of 14,421 units. Sales of the original Excelle were strong at 11,547 units. Demand for Buick’s trio of SUVs (Envision, Enclave and Encore) was also high, rising 134.3 percent to 15,322 units.

Chevrolet sales in China decreased 5.6 percent on an annual basis to 49,528 units. Its most popular nameplate in April was the Cruze, which sold 19,836 units. It was followed by the Sail, which had sales of 12,974 units, and the Malibu, whose sales totaled 8,731 units.

Cadillac luxury vehicle sales in China were up 4.6 percent year over year to 6,197 units. Sales of the ATS-L and ATS totaled 2,364 units. They were followed by the SRX, with sales of 1,891 units, and the XTS, which sold 1,863 units.

Baojun sales in April jumped 365.8 percent on an annual basis to 24,301 units. Sales of its most popular model, the Baojun 730 MPV, accounted for about 88 percent of that demand.

Wuling sales across China decreased 5.1 percent from April 2014 to 114,740 units. The brand was once again led by the Hong Guang family, which had sales growth of 3.2 percent to 53,568 units.
