Ferrari to build 500th LaFerrari
Ferrari LaFerrari gets one extra car added to its original 499-unit production run; the 500th example will be auctioned in aid of those affected by the Italian earthquake.
The Ferrari LaFerrari’s 499-unit production run is being boosted to 500 units, with proceeds from the final car going to the victims of the recent Italian earthquake.
The 950bhp LaFerrari finished its production run in 2015, but one extra model is being made to be sold at auction. With such a small production number, it’s no surprise that examples which make it onto the used market carry a heavy premium over the car’s £1.15 million price (Rs 11.31 crore).
Used examples currently sell for between £2.5 million (Rs 24.60 crore) and £3 million (Rs 29.52 crore), although it’s likely that the value of the 500th LaFerrari may exceed this considerably. A source at Ferrari said that the original demand for LaFerrari was more than double the supply, and this is the last opportunity for a buyer to own a LaFerrari from new.
The drop-top LaFerrari, named Aperta, will be revealed at the Paris motor show in a few weeks, but the 500th LaFerrari will be the very last coupé version built.
The last LaFerrari is being built to benefit victims of the recent earthquake in central Italy, which struck on 24th August and claimed the lives of hundreds while leaving thousands more homeless.
Each standard LaFerrari carries a plaque bearing the words ‘Limited edition [car number]/499’, or the car’s number in the production run, but a source at Ferrari indicated that the 500th example may carry a plaque demonstrating its special status as the very last car, sold to help the victims of the earthquake.
Ferrari previously auctioned an Enzo after the Boxing Day Tsunami in 2004. That car carried a similar plaque, so it’s likely that this LaFerrari will be the same. It’s also likely that the winning bidder will get to choose the colour and spec of the car, although this hasn’t been finalised.
Ferrari hasn’t yet decided when or where the car will be auctioned, or by whom.
