BMW Motorrad updates its midsized adventure-touring bikes with new 2017 line up

BMW Motorrad has just updated the top-end of its midsized adventure-touring motorcycle portfolio with new enhancements for the 2017 line up.

The BMW F 700 GS, F 800 GS and F 800 GS Adventure models that are widely known for their on- and off-road touring capabilities across many developed global markets now come with engines adapted for Euro 4 norms (along with newly designed tail pipes), enhanced electronic controls with four riding modes, all-new instrument cluster relaying more information for rider(s), and other cosmetic features.

BMW Motorrad’s F 700 GS is positioned as an entry-level adventure motorcycle for riders with soft skills and an inclination for on-road riding. The F 800 GS, on the other hand, offers a combination of on- and off-road touring abilities. The BMW F 800 GS Adventure, which is understood to have been first added in 2014 to boost its middleweight portfolio, is positioned as a highly capable off-road tourer for skilled riders.

All the three models are powered by the advanced liquid-cooled, parallel twin, fuel-injected 798cc engine, which is now, adapted according to the Euro 4 emission regulations. The models now also sport all-new redesigned Akrapovic stainless steel tail pipe.

The onboard electronics are also understood to have been upgraded with newly evolved traction control system - electromotive throttle controller that comes with four riding modes – rain, road, enduro and enduro pro for riding preferences.

The company website quotes “An electromotive throttle controller now passes on the rider’s commands directly from a sensor on the twist grip to the engine control system, and, therefore, to the throttle valve. The result is even finer controllability and an improved response. At the same time, this also enables the new standard riding modes “rain” and “road” to be used for riding on damp or dry surfaces as well as the modes “Enduro” and “Enduro Pro” - available as an ex works option (for the F 800 GS / F 800 GS Adventure only) - which are designed for lighter and more intense off-road use respectively.”

New instrument cluster, cosmetic upgrades

The new 2017 edition of the three middleweight adventure-touring motorcycles also offer newly designed and legible instrument cluster, which sports an additional ‘malfunction indicator light’ (MIL) meant for ensuring emission output while on-road. The new editions also come with three new paint schemes, and the BMW F 800 GS Adventure gets two additional paint options along with new radiator trim elements, intake silencer cover and ignition lock casing.

BMW Motorrad’s2017 line-up of these three models clearly indicates the rising trend of midsized adventure-touring motorcycles around the world.
