Gujarat Launches Cybersecurity-Audited Electric Bus Fleet in Ahmedabad

The Ahmedabad Municipal Transport Corporation (AMTC) has inaugurated a new fleet of electric buses following the completion of a cybersecurity audit conducted by GlobalLogic, a Hitachi Group company, and its strategic partner IRCLASS Systems and Solutions Pvt. Ltd. (ISSPL).

Chief Minister of Gujarat Bhupendra Patel formally launched the fleet on February 13, 2026, in a move the state government described as part of its broader push toward secure, technology-enabled public transportation.

The buses are Bus Rapid Transit (BRT)-compatible Midi AC Electric vehicles equipped with an Intelligent Transport Management System (ITMS). The onboard systems include GPS-based Automatic Vehicle Location Systems (AVLS), Passenger Information Systems (PIS), CCTV surveillance, and automated run-kilometre calculations used for operator payments.

The depth of integration between these vehicle systems and backend platforms prompted authorities to commission a structured security review before fleet-wide deployment.

According to GlobalLogic and ISSPL, the assessment covered in-vehicle networks, firmware components, CCTV and mobile NVR (mNVR) devices, ITS modules, PIS and LED display systems, panic button mechanisms, RPAS components, APIs, web portals, and associated data storage infrastructure. Gray-box penetration testing was used, aligned with ISO/SAE 21434 cybersecurity engineering standards, the AIS-189 regulatory requirements, and threat scenarios from UN R155 Annex 5.

Piyush Jha, Group Vice President and Head-APAC at GlobalLogic, said the work with AMTC reflected the company's aim of strengthening digital resilience in next-generation mobility. Shashi Nath Mishra, Chief Operating Officer at ISSPL, said the engagement demonstrated how structured cybersecurity validation can uncover systemic risks before full fleet deployment, and sets a benchmark for how electric and intelligent fleets should be evaluated and operationalized.

The initiative comes as India accelerates the electrification and digitalization of its public transportation networks. Both GlobalLogic and ISSPL indicated that cybersecurity assurance is becoming a growing consideration for transit authorities managing connected fleets, given the potential risks to passenger safety and service continuity from unaddressed vulnerabilities.
