Wabco India to sponsor Tata’s T1 Prima Truck Racing Championship

Wabco India to sponsor Tata’s T1 Prima Truck Racing Championship

Mumbai, January 24, 2014: Wabco, a global technology leader and Tier 1 supplier of safety and efficiency systems to the commercial vehicle industry, has announced its participation in the country’s first ever T1 Prima Truck Racing Championship as the official braking technology partner. Tata Motors will host this inaugural racing event on March 23, 2014 at the Buddh International Formula 1 Circuit in Greater Noida.

Overall, six truck racing teams will compete in the championship showcasing 12 of Tata Motors’ premier Prima Model 4038.S trucks. Wabco is to provide all competing trucks with a range of innovative products drawn from its portfolio of safety and efficiency technologies. Each truck will be equipped with a fully integrated compressed air system that includes the company’s high-performance Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) alongside high-output compressor technology, advanced air processing systems and braking components.

“Wabco’s participation in this event recognises more than 50 years of partnership with India’s market leader in commercial vehicles,” said P Kaniappan, wholetime director, Wabco India. “We welcome this opportunity to demonstrate the high performance of Wabco’s advanced safety and efficiency technologies in a racing environment, which represents the most extreme conditions for heavy duty trucks.”

Wabco India has five world-class manufacturing sites located in Ambattur, Chennai; Jamshedpur; Mahindra World City; Pant Nagar and Lucknow as well as a software development centre and a company-owned test track in Chennai. The company designs, manufactures and markets conventional braking products, advanced braking systems, and other related air-assisted products and systems. It has a major market share in the Indian OEM market as well as the domestic aftermarket, which it caters to through an extensive national distribution network. It employs more than 1,100 employees and reported Rs 976 crore sales in 2012-13.
