BKT, the ‘Off-Road King,’ Chases the Consumer Market
The company has unveiled a broad range of tyres for the Indian two-wheeler and CV markets.
About 15 months ago, in the hushed, climate-controlled luxury of a five-star Mumbai hotel, three men sat down for a lunch that would effectively redraw the map for one of India’s most successful automotive tyre exporters.
On one side of the table were the promoters of Balkrishna Industries Limited (BKT): Arvind Poddar, the Chairman and Managing Director, and his son Rajiv, the Joint Managing Director. Across from them was Satish Sharma, Senior President & Director (Business Development and Strategy) a man whose core strength in the tyre industry was well-known, having recently joined from Apollo Tyres.
