New Tekton Midsize SUV is Nissan India’s Best-Selling Model in July

Launched on July 9, the Nissan Tekton sold 1,670 units in its first month of sale and accounted for 37% of Nissan India’s wholesales of 4,518 units. It remains to be seen whether the well-equipped and competent Tekton can hold its own in the highly competitive midsize SUV segment bristling with over 20 rivals.

The Tekton, Nissan India’s newest SUV launched on July 9, was the company’s best-selling model last month. The Tekton, which marks the Japanese automaker’s return to the midsize SUV market in India, logged wholesales (factory dispatches to dealers) of 1,670 units in its first month and accounted for 37% of Nissan India’s 4,518 passenger vehicles in July (up 218% YoY, July 2025: 1,420 units). The Magnite compact SUV (1,462 units, 32% model-wise share) and the Gravite MPV (1,386 units, 31% model-wise share) ranked second and third, respectively, sales-wise.

Nissan India's Sales Mix: Tekton, Magnite and Gravite Compared

With the launch of the Tekton coming five months after the rollout of the Gravite seven-seater compact MPV in February, Nissan India, which for long had depended on a single model (Magnite), has seen its volumes rise. Monthly dispatches, which had averaged 2,512 units in FY2024, 2,323 units in FY2025 and 2,025 units in FY2026, have jumped to 3,418 units in the first four months of FY2027. Demand for the Gravite, whose best monthly sales were in March 2026 (2,375 units), has slowed down since then: April (1,428 units), May (1,283 units), June (1,839 units) and July (1,386 units).

The Tekton is essentially the badge-engineered Renault Duster. It shares the Duster’s platform, powertrains and several components and is built on the same assembly line at the Renault–Nissan Alliance plant at Oragadam, near Chennai.

Will Tekton Sales keep Ticking in a Competitive Market?

Like the booming compact SUV market, which hit a new high of 397,609 units in Q1 FY2027, there is also intense competition in the midsize SUV market. The Nissan Tekton’s main rivals include the Hyundai Creta, Maruti Grand Vitara, Kia Seltos, Toyota Hyryder, Tata Sierra, Skoda Kushaq, Volkswagen Taigun, Honda Elevate and its platform sibling, the Renault Duster. Like the Duster, the Nissan Tekton has also received a 5-star rating in Bharat NCAP crash tests.

The tough and classy Nissan Tekton is a thoroughly competent SUV with outstanding ride-handling balance and is generously equipped with plenty of in-vehicle tech as well as a panoramic sunroof.

Nissan Tekton Price, Engine and Variant Details

Pricing for the 12-variant Nissan Tekton starts at Rs 10.49 lakh and goes up to Rs 18.5 lakh, which is Rs 10,000-50,000 more than an equivalent Renault Duster. Powertrains comprise two turbo-petrol engines: a 100hp 1.0-litre 3-cylinder and a 163hp 1.3-litre 4-cylinder. While the Tekton 1.0 turbo gets only a 6-speed manual gearbox, the 1.3 turbo additionally offers a 6-speed wet-clutch DCT.

In terms of features, the Nissan Tekton offers a 10.1-inch infotainment touchscreen, 10.25-inch digital driver’s display, wireless charging pad, ventilated and powered front seats, dual-zone climate control, 48-colour ambient lighting, panoramic sunroof, 6-speaker Arkamys sound system, rear AC vents, wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, leatherette upholstery, and more.

Barely a month down since its launch, it’s early days yet for the Tekton which is a thoroughly competent midsize SUV. However, in a segment bristling with 20-plus rivals, it remains to be seen if the latest Nissan SUV in town can consistently draw buyers who also have a wide choice of well-entrenched midsize SUVs backed by larger dealer network, broader powertrain options as well as stronger brand power.
