Maruti e-Vitara Sales in India Cross 7,000 Units, Exports Exceed 35,000 Units

Demand picks up for the e-Vitara, which had a 2% share of Maruti Suzuki’s highest-ever monthly utility vehicle wholesales of 79,267 units in May and has chalked up 7,097 units in the first five months of CY2026. In exports, the e-Vitara is the company’s third-highest SUV in demand after the Fronx and Jimny.

Maruti e-Vitara Sales in India Cross 7,000 Units, Exports Exceed 35,000 Units

With Maruti Suzuki dispatching 1,439 units of its e-Vitara SUV to its showrooms across India in May 2026, cumulative wholesales (factory dispatches) of the company’s first electric vehicle have crossed the 7,000-unit mark. The highest monthly wholesales in the first five months of this calendar year were in March (2,254 units). Between January and May 2026, the e-Vitara is estimated to have sold a total of 7,097 units in the domestic market and accounts for 0.80% of the company’s total passenger vehicle sales of 879,879 units and 2% of its total utility vehicle sales of 376,880 units.

Between January and May 2026, estimated e-Vitara wholesales of 7,097 units accounted for a 2% share of Maruti Suzuki India’s total utility vehicle dispatches of 376,880 units.

On the retail sales front, Maruti Suzuki has delivered 4,450 units of the e-Vitara to its customers, as per Vahan data, between January and May. Starting with 224 units in January, e-Vitara retails have risen month on month: February (227 units), March (1,008 units), April (1,333 units) and May (1,658 units).

Both the monthly wholesale and retail numbers would have been higher but for the fact that the production allocation of the e-Vitara for the domestic market has been restricted to between 2,000-2,500 units, with far more reserved for exports, given that the first Maruti EV is the third-highest export UV model after the Fronx and Jimny. It is understood that the company, which has received over 4,000 bookings in India for the e-Vitara in the past month, plans to increase the zero-emission model’s production capacity from August or September this year.

In May 2026, the month when Maruti Suzuki achieved its highest-ever monthly UV wholesales of 79,267 units (up 44% YoY), the e-Vitara was ranked seventh in the nine-model UV portfolio with a 2% share. As the model-wise wholesales data table for last month (below) reveals, the Fronx compact SUV topped the company’s dispatches with 20,686 units. The other five UVs ahead of the e-Vitara are the Ertiga (20,350 units), Brezza (13,425 units), Victoris (10,853 units), Grand Vitara (7,927 units) and XL6 (3,770 units). The two UVs that follow the Maruti EV are the Jimny (516 units) and the Invicto (301 units).

In May, the e-Vitara contributed 1,439 units to Maruti Suzuki’s record monthly utility vehicle wholesales of 79,267 units and was ranked seventh in the nine-model lineup with a 2% share.

The Maruti e-Vitara rivals popular midsize e-SUVs like the Hyundai Creta Electric, Mahindra BE 6 and Tata Curvv EV, as well as the upcoming Tata Sierra EV, which has been revealed ahead of its June 30 launch. The Maruti EV shares its platform, including its electric powertrain, with the Toyota Urban Cruiser Ebella, which clocked 45 units in May 2026, the first month of sale for Toyota Kirloskar Motor’s first EV.

The e-Vitara is available in three variants comprising Delta 49 kWh (543km range), Zeta 61 kWh and Alpha 61 kWh (440km range). While the smaller battery is mated to a 144hp electric motor, the larger 61 kWh battery pack is paired with a 174hp motor. In India, the e-Vitara is offered only with a front-wheel-drive (FWD) setup, although it gets an all-wheel-drive (AWD) option in overseas markets where it is exported.

Priced from Rs 15.99 lakh to Rs 19.79 lakh, the e-Vitara is available with a battery subscription scheme. This plan essentially allows buyers to purchase the whole car except the battery pack, which is offered on a monthly subscription of Rs 3.99 and Rs 4.39 per km for the 49 kWh and 61 kWh battery pack options, respectively. This scheme lowers the e-Vitara’s price to Rs 10.99 lakh for the base-spec Delta 49 kWh, Rs 11.99 lakh for the mid-spec Zeta variant and Rs 14.29 lakh for the fully loaded Alpha 61 kWh, excluding the battery subscription fee. There is an 8-year or 160,000km warranty on both battery pack options (whichever is earlier), and a 3-year standard warranty on the vehicle, which can be extended up to 8 years upon payment of an additional fee.

The first shipment of nearly 3,000 made-in-India e-Vitaras sailed from Pipavav Port in Gujarat last August for 12 European markets. Since then, an additional 32,000 units have been shipped overseas.

Strong Export Demand Continues Since August 2025

With India as the global production hub for the e-Vitara, Maruti’s first EV continues to benefit from strong export demand. Nearly 36,000 units have been shipped overseas to date. In August 2025, the first shipment from Pipavav Port in Gujarat comprised 2,954 units for 12 European countries – the United Kingdom, Germany, Norway, France, Denmark, Switzerland, the Netherlands, Sweden, Hungary, Iceland, Austria and Belgium. Since then, another 32,000 units have been exported.

In FY2026, the e-Vitara, with 25,549 units, was the third-highest-selling SUV for Maruti Suzuki after the Fronx (90,186 units) and Jimny (72,209 units) and accounted for 11% of the company’s record UV exports of 227,079 units. In the overall UV segment, the e-Vitara was ranked No. 5 after the Fronx, Jimny, Nissan Magnite (56,704 units) and the Toyota Hyryder (38,854 units) last fiscal.

In the first two months of FY2027, it is estimated that over 10,000 e-Vitaras have been shipped to overseas markets, accounting for 12% of the 81,004 PVs and 21% of the 46,638 UVs that Maruti Suzuki exported in April-May 2026.
