JSW MG Motor India, which launched its new diesel-powered luxury flagship Majestor SUV on May 27, has registered wholesales (factory dispatches) of 424 units in May 2026 from the 467 units manufactured at the company’s Halol, Gujarat, plant last month. This is as per the data released by apex industry body SIAM and gives the MG Majestor a 7% share of the company’s total dispatches of 6,048 vehicles last month, led by the game-changing Windsor EV (2,032 units, 34% share of sales).

The MG Majestor replaces the Gloster in the carmaker's eight-model line-up, which includes the Windsor EV, Comet EV, ZS EV, M9, Cyberster, Hector and Astor. The Majestor, which has a starting price of Rs 40.99 lakh through to Rs 44.99 lakh (ex-showroom), is a three-row, full-size premium SUV which can be optioned with six or seven seats, providing versatility to family buyers. This imposing vehicle stands 5,046mm long, 2,016mm wide and 1,870mm tall and has a 2,950mm wheelbase.

The Majestor’s interior is both spacious and well-equipped, offering soft-touch materials and a two-tone premium-looking theme along with plenty of convenience features. Key product highlights are a panoramic sunroof, three-zone AC, ventilated front seats with massage functions, and dual wireless chargers. There is also a 12.3-inch touchscreen and a 12.3-inch digital driver’s display, a 12-speaker JBL audio system, digital key and 64-colour ambient lighting. Cabin space continues to be one of the MG Majestor’s strongest points, especially in the second row, while the third row remains more usable than that of several rivals in the premium family SUV segment.

The Majestor’s body-on-frame platform is borrowed from the Maxus D90 sold in many foreign markets, while its 2.0-litre four-cylinder twin-turbo diesel engine, which develops 215hp and 479 Nm of torque, is shared with the Gloster. The latest MG SUV, which gets a 4WD setup with a low-range transfer case, electronically locking differentials and 10 off-road modes, has an 810mm water-wading capacity.

On the safety front, the MG Majestor gets Level 2 ADAS, standard six airbags, a 360-degree camera, hill hold and descent controls, ESP, TPMS and ISOFIX.

With its price range, the MG Majestor directly rivals the muscular Toyota Fortuner, which has a price range between Rs 34.76 lakh and Rs 50.46 lakh (ex-showroom). In May 2026, the Fortuner sold 2,905 units and accounted for a 9.50% share of Toyota Kirloskar Motor’s dispatches of 30,560 vehicles. The Majestor also competes with monocoque SUVs such as the Volkswagen Tayron, Skoda Kodiaq and Jeep Meridian.

According to Autocar India, “The MG Majestor offers a strong combination of luxury, space, comfort and genuine off-road capability. The premium ladder-frame SUV improves upon the Gloster with more premium styling, additional technology and significantly upgraded off-road hardware. While the turbo lag and gearbox responsiveness still leave room for improvement, the Majestor stands out as a feature-rich Toyota Fortuner rival while offering a more spacious and tech-loaded experience.”

It’s early days for the latest MG in town. We will keep you regularly updated on how the Majestor fares and whether it can match the brand pull of its main rival, which sports a Toyota badge.
