Bajaj Qute Exports Jump 203% to 2,928 Units in Q1 FY2027

Bajaj Auto, India's No. 1 two-wheeler as well as three-wheeler exporter, reported strong growth in its overseas shipments in April-June 2026. Total Bajaj export shipments in Q1 FY2027, at 732,173 units, grew 54% YoY (Q1 FY2026: 476,429 units) and accounted for 37% of India Auto Inc's exports of 1.95 million vehicles.

While Bajaj Auto's two-wheeler exports, at 636,005 units, increased 52% YoY and three-wheeler exports grew 66% YoY to 93,240 units, exports of the Bajaj Qute quadricycle jumped 203% in Q1 FY2027 to 2,928 units, albeit on a low base (Q1 FY2026: 966 units).

With strong export sales of the Qute in Q1 FY2027, which is possibly the best quarter yet for the made-in-India quadricycle, total Qute exports have reached 43,439 units (see the 12-year data table below). Given the strong export demand early in the current fiscal year, FY2027 should see total exports of the Qute surpass FY2026's 6,696 units, which is the highest yet. Egypt, Turkey and some African countries are key buyers of the Bajaj Qute.

The Qute's India sales story is starkly different, though. Compared to the rising export demand, domestic market sales of the Qute, which is India's first-ever quadricycle (a sub-group of the LCV segment) launched in FY2019 and available with CNG, LPG and petrol power options, continue to be abysmal. From FY2016 to Q1 FY2027, only 3,279 units have been sold in India, where it is pitched as an 'auto taxi'. The very tepid demand for the Qute could change because there is a zero-emission avatar in the new product pipeline.

ELECTRIC QUTE EXPECTED SOON?

Given Bajaj Auto's massive success in the electric two-wheeler segment, where it is the sole challenger to market leader TVS Motor Co, and the electric three-wheeler segment, where it is engaged in an intense battle with Mahindra Last Mile Mobility, it is only to be expected that the company will leverage its EV expertise and experience to extend its electrification programme to a zero-emission avatar of the Qute.

Some media reports say that homologation of the upcoming electric Qute is underway and that this eco-friendly product has been spotted testing. Given the ongoing shift to EVs and a marked increase in transition levels following the recent price hikes in petrol, diesel and CNG, amid the government's sharpened focus on e-mobility, it is likely that Bajaj Auto could soon spring a surprise with the rollout of the Qute EV.
