Within only four months of its commercial launch, the Fascino scooter has already become the best-selling scooter model for India Yamaha Motor. The Fascino, which is powered by an air-cooled, four-stroke, single-cylinder 113cc engine borrowed from the Ray, sold 13,478 units in August 2015.

The Yamaha Fascino was the seventh highest selling scooter model last month, climbing from the number eight slot that it had occupied in July 2015. It had sold 10,594 units in July.

Also, the Yamaha Ray (Ray and Ray Z models), which sold 11,865 units in August 2015, was eighth best-seller in the list of top 10 scooters. It can be noted that the Fascino and Ray scooter models together contributed sales of 25,343 units during August 2015, thereby accounting for more than 40 percent of the company’s overall monthly sales.

Interestingly, Yamaha crossed the 60,000-unit sales mark for the first time for any month, during August 2015.

As the Fascino and Ray models moved up in the list by one position each, Honda’s 109.2cc Aviator model, which held the seventh position in July 2015, got pushed down to the ninth slot for August 2015. The Honda Aviator sold 9,436 units during the last month.

While the Fascino and the Ray come with an ex-showroom (Delhi) price tag of Rs 52,500 and Rs 47,805 respectively, the Honda Aviator retails for Rs 50,863 (ex-showroom, Delhi).

The 110cc TVS Scooty Zest 110 that sold 8,880 units last month stood stable at the tenth slot. It comes with a price tag of Rs 44,878 (ex-showroom, Delhi).

The top six positions remain unchanged for the month of August, as they were in July 2015. It is no surprise that the Honda Activa, which is by far the largest selling two-wheeler model in India for the past three months now, stands as the highest selling scooter. In terms of numbers, it sold 217,819 units last month.

The Activa’s sales for August were close to five times that of its immediate challenger – the 110cc TVS Jupiter, which sold 46,614 units during the last month. The Activa comes with a starting price of Rs 46,213 (ex-showroom Delhi for Activa-i). The TVS Jupiter’s pricing starts from Rs 47,989 (ex-showroom, Delhi).

Following the TVS Jupiter is Hero MotoCorp’s popular 110cc scooter, the Maestro, which sold 31,562 units in August 2015. It comes for a starting price of Rs 48,050 (ex-showroom, Delhi).

The 109.2cc Honda Dio (19,536 units), 124cc Suzuki Access (18,090 units) and 102cc Hero Pleasure (15,826 units) continue to occupy the fourth, fifth and sixth slots in the top 10 list. While the Honda Dio and Suzuki Access come for an ex-showroom (Delhi) price tag of Rs 47,887 and 56,497 respectively, the basic variant of Hero Pleasure can be purchased for Rs 44,900 (ex-showroom, Delhi).
