The MG Windsor EV, the cool-looking and tech-laden spacious five-seater which has taken the domestic passenger vehicle market by storm, has once again topped monthly electric passenger vehicle sales in the opening month of FY2026. In April 2025, JSW MG Motor India dispatched 3,660 Windsor EVs to its dealers across India, the model accounting for 63% of its total 5,829 passenger vehicles. The April 2025 dispatches take the Windsor EV’s cumulative wholesales to 23,054 units from launch in end-September 2024 through to April 2025.
Wholesales data for the Windsor EV and its share of JSW MG Motor India’s monthly sales since October 2024 reveal the strong contribution of this model. The 23,054 Windsor EV factory dispatches to dealers over the past seven months constitute 57% of JSW MG Motor India’s 40,366 passenger vehicles (see data table below), indicating just how instrumental this single new product has been to the company’s fortunes.
JSW MG Motor India currently retails seven models comprising six SUVs (Astor, Hector 5-seater/Hector Plus, Gloster, ZS EV and Windsor EV) and one hatchback (Comet EV).
The Windsor EV, which comes with a range of segment-first features, lounge-like seating and a lifetime battery warranty along with the innovative Battery-as-a-Service (BaaS) program user plan for its EVs, has given a new charge to JSW MG Motor India’s sales and also helped buffer the decline in sales for some of its other passenger vehicles, particularly the Hector midsize SUV.
Autocar India’s Buyer’s Guide commentary on the Windsor EV states: “The Windsor EV is MG’s best EV yet . . . spacious, has unique and comfy lounge seats, and a long features list. It drives nicely too, being set up for a smooth and easygoing drive. The ride quality, however, is on the firmer side. The innovative battery hire arrangement is worth looking it.”
NEW WINDSOR PRO EV UPS THE VALUE QUOTIENT WITH 449KM RANGE
On May 5, the company launched the Windsor Pro EV which is now the new top-end variant with pricing starting at Rs 17.49 lakh (for the first 8,000 bookings). After the 8,000 bookings were achieved in 24 hours, JSW MG Motor India hiked the Pro’s price by Rs 60,000 to Rs 18.09 lakh (ex-showroom) and to Rs 13.09 lakh under the BaaS program with a usage charge of Rs 4.50 per kilometre.
Where the Windsor Pro EV stands out is the new 52.9 kWH LFP battery, which delivers a claimed 449km range on a single charge compared to the ARAI-certified 332km in the standard Windsor EV with the 38 kWh LFP battery. Power (136hp) and torque (200 Nm) remain unchanged. On the charging front, the Windsor Pro EV comes with a 7.4 kW AC charger that ‘juices’ it up in around nine-and-a-half hours and with 69 kW DC fasting, a 20-80% charge in 50 minutes.
Key products highlights are new 18-inch allow wheels, three new colour options (Celadon Blue, Glaze Red and Aurora Silver), new beige upholstery in the cabin, V2V (Vehicle to Vehicle) and V2L (Vehicle to Load) functionality, where the battery can be used to charge other electric cars and external devices, as well as a Level 2 ADAS safety suite and powered tailgate.
While the standard Windsor EV targets the Tata Nexon EV and Mahindra XUV400, the new Windsor Pro EV will look to draw buyers away from the 45 kWh variants of the Nexon EV and entry level variants of the Hyundai Creta Electric and Tata Curvv EV.
Today, JSW MG Motor India launched a new variant of the Windsor EV: Exclusive Pro. Equipped with the larger 52.9 kWh battery pack (449km ARAI-certified range) as in the top-spec Windsor Essence Pro, it costs Rs 85,000 less at Rs 17.25 lakh. Deliveries of this variant will commence in June.
JSW MG MOTOR INDIA EV RETAIL SHARE JUMPS TO 33%, TATA MOTORS AT 44%
While wholesale numbers are essentially factory dispatches to company dealers, retail sales numbers depict the actual customer deliveries and are the real-world indication of a model’s sales. The latest retail sales data, sourced from the Vahan portal (shown above), reveals just how the success of the Windsor EV is reflected in the company’s rapid growth in the past seven months.
While JSW MG Motor India sold 8,327 EVs in the April-September 2024 period, up 88% YoY, the 25,794 MG-branded EVs sold in the subsequent seven months (October 2024-April 2025) are a handsome 241% increase on the 7,559 units sold in the October 2023-April 2024 period. While the Vahan numbers do not indicate model-wise sales, the growth accelerator clearly is the Windsor EV.
As per the latest Vahan data, the same 7-month period has seen Tata Motors achieve sales of 34,142 electric passenger vehicles which gives Tata a 44% e-PV market share in India in the current fiscal. The battle for supremacy will continue in right earnest throughout FY2026. And, today,
FY2026 TO SEE HOST OF NEW EV LAUNCHES
FY2026 promises to be a humdinger of a year in terms of new product launches in the EV market, which has kicked off with the launch of the MG Windsor EV Pro. The new fiscal will see leading carmakers enter the EV market in India as well as some existing players expand their portfolio.
Among the most-awaited launches is that of the Maruti Suzuki e Vitara, which is pitted against the Hyundai Creta Electric, Tata Curvv EV and Mahindra BE 6. This year will also see Toyota Kirloskar Motor, which has seen huge success with sales of its four rebadged Maruti Suzuki models, launch the Urban Cruiser EV. This Toyota version of the Suzuki e Vitara will, like its Maruti sibling, gun for the compact e-SUV market.
Tata Motors, which needs to critically regain EV market momentum, will launch the Harrier EV in June. Mahindra & Mahindra, which now has two new e-SUVs in the form of BE 6 and XEV 9e, will introduce the XEV 7e and XEV 9e. There will also be the XUV 3XO EV, the all-electric avatar of the high-selling XUV 3XO squarely targeted at the Tata Nexon EV.
And Kia India’s Carens MPV is to be joined by an all-electric sibling by the end of this year.
