TVS exports 4,427 BMW CE 02 and 1,486 iQube electric scooters in FY2025

TVS Motor Co, which manufactures the BMW CE 02 e-scooter at its Hosur factory and also the popular TVS iQube, accounts for 86% of the 6,845 made-in-India electric two-wheelers shipped to overseas markets last fiscal. While Ather Energy exported 805 e-scooters, Bajaj Auto dispatched 125 Chetaks abroad and Honda Activa Es.

TVS exports 4,427 BMW CE 02 and 1,486 iQube electric scooters in FY2025

The Indian scooter industry had a record fiscal in FY2025 on multiple fronts. Not only were total domestic market sales at 6.85 million units a new benchmark but at 569,093 units, exports of made-in-India scooters also raised the bar, surpassing the half-a-million mark for the second fiscal in a row. Now, it can be revealed that export of electric scooters also scaled a new high in FY2025. At 6,845 units shipped, a marked 325% YoY increase (FY2024: 1,609 units), demand rose sharply albeit on a low year-ago base.

Of the 569,093 made-in-India scooters exported, electric scooters accounted for a 1% share, up from zero percent in FY2024.

TVS Motor Co has had a red-letter fiscal in FY2025 what with record scooter sales of 1.81 million units power the company to a best-ever 3.51 million two-wheelers. Furthermore, TVS’ e-2W exports are also at a new high with total shipments of 5,913 units, up 404% YoY (FY2024: 1,173 units).

The bulk (75%) of TVS' e-2W exports comprise the BMW CE 02 – 4,427 units, with the balance 25% being the TVS iQube (1,486 units, up 414% YoY).

TVS’ EV exports continue to be powered by the BMW CE 02 electric scooter that it jointly manufactures with BMW Motorrad at its plant in Hosur, Tamil Nadu and began exporting in April 2024, news which Autocar Professional had broken. The bulk (75%) of the company’s e-2W exports comprise the BMW CE 02 – 4,427 units, up 401% YoY – with the balance 25% provided by the TVS iQube (1,486 units, up 414% YoY). It is likely that the bulk of the iQube exports have gone to Nepal, where TVS sells the zero-emission product through its authorised distributor Jagdamba Motors.

TVS Motor Co and BMW Motorrad have jointly designed, developed and built the platform for the BMW CE 02 which rolls out of TVS' Hosur plant.

TVS Motor Co, which is the second largest two-wheeler exporter after Bajaj Auto, has a lot invested in the BMW CE 02 EV, whose platform has been jointly designed, developed and built by TVS and BMW Motorrad. It is the second jointly developed platform after the 310 series which has spawned the BMW G 310 R, BMW 310 GS, BMW G310 RR, along with TVS’ flagship motorcycles, Apache RR 310 and Apache RTR 310.

The 132kg BMW CE 02 develops 15hp, travels 90 kilometres on a single charge and has a claimed top speed of 95kph. Underpinnings are fairly simple with a double-loop steel tubular frame cradling the twin battery packs, suspended by a USD fork/monoshock setup. The BMW CE 02 uses a 296mm front disc, clamped down upon by a single-piston caliper and it only gets single-channel ABS. While the equipment is fairly basic, the CE 02 does get a single-sided swingarm and sends power to the rear wheel via a belt drive.

ATHER ENERGY EXPORTS 805 E-SCOOTERS
Smart e-scooter Ather Energy, which was recently listed on the bourses, is ranked second on the e-2W export scale with 805 units, up 126% YoY (FY2024: 356 units). The bulk of the exports are of the Ather 450X while the 450S accounts for a 12% share in FY2025.

Bajaj Auto, which like TVS with its iQube, sold over 200,000 Chetaks in FY2025, exported 125 of the zero-emission scooters last fiscal, up 69% YoY (FY2024: 74 units).

Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India, which has recently entered the e-2W market with its Activa E and QC1, shipped 2 Activa Es overseas. These, most likely, would be to its parent company, Honda Motor Co in Japan.
