India’s utility vehicle segment, which clocked record wholesales of 2.79 million units in FY2025, has gone past the 2.50 million sales in the first 10 months of FY2026 and should cross the 3 million milestone for the first time with ease at the end of the current fiscal.
Even as compact and midsize SUVs grab the bulk of the market, multi-purpose vehicles (MPVs) are also making their presence felt. Demand for this vehicle category is on the upswing and compared to an 11% share of UV sales in FY2025, MPV sales in the April 2025-January 2026 period are estimated to account for a 17% share of the 25,09,991 UVs sold in the past 10 months.
The calling card of the MPV segment, among a host of factors in a value-conscious market like India, is the high level of practicality, the ability to transport seven people and their luggage in comfort, and the fact that more and more car-owning families are taking the road to their holidays across the country. Let’s take a quick look at the Top 10 MPVs in the current fiscal year.
No. 1 – Maruti Ertiga: 163,976 units, up 3%
Maruti Suzuki India's first crack at the MPV segment continues to win over buyers and will maintain its title as India’s No. 1 MPV for seventh straight fiscal. The Ertiga, sold with petrol and CNG powertrains, has sold 163,976 units, up 3% YoY, in the past 10 months.
It is also currently Maruti Suzuki’s best-selling UV in FY2026 and India’s third best-selling UV after the Tata Nexon (176,814 units) and the Hyundai Creta (166,145 units), maintaining the same rank as in FY2025. However, sales have slowed down YoY and the Ertiga needs to sell another 26,998 units in February and March if it is to surpass its record sales of 190,974 units in FY2025.
No. 2 – Toyota Innova Crysta / Hycross: 93,327 units, up 9%
Currently ranked No. 10 in the Top 30 UVs list in FY2026 YTD, the Innova MPV – Toyota Kirloskar Motor’s best-selling product – has sold 93,327 units in the April 2025-January 2026 period, up 5% (April 2024-January 2025: 88,899 units). This gives the model a 31% share of the total 301,041 passenger vehicles and 37% of the 253,251 UVs Toyota India has sold in the past 10 months.
Sold in two variants, the Crysta and Hycross, customer demand for the Innova Hycross (hybrid) has been particularly strong, which has helped accelerate sales for this popular people transporter. It is estimated that the Hycross accounts for over 65% of the Innova model’s sales in the past 10 months.
No. 3 – Kia Carens: 66,454 units, up 24%
The high-on-space and comfort Carens MPV, targeted at large families scouting for a premium, spacious cabin as well as day-to-day practicality, and a choice of multiple powertrains, is on the roll in FY2026. The 66,454 units sold in the fiscal to date are up 24% YoY, which is a result of the portfolio expanding with the new Clavis and Clavis EV.
Not only has this MPV now gone past its FY2025 wholesales of 64,609 units but is just 3,860 units shy of beating its best-ever fiscal sales of 70,314 units in FY2023. The Carens MPV, which turned four years old on February 15, accounts for a 27% share of Kia India’s sales of 10,43,126 UVs since February 2022. The launch of the new Clavis and Clavis EV siblings has accelerated demand and the Carens brand is well set to clock record sales of over 75,000 units in FY2026.
No. 4 – MG Windsor EV: 39,641 units, up 198%
The MG Windsor EV, which was launched in October 2024, has moved up three ranks to No. 4 from No. 7 in FY2025. The crossover model which blends the design of an MPV, hatchback and SUV, has taken the passenger vehicle market and, in particular, the EV segment, by storm.
Not only has the cool-looking product taken the battle into EV market leader Tata Motors’ camp, but the tech-laden, spacious five-seater, all-electric Windsor EV which comes with a range of segment-first features, lounge-like seating and a lifetime battery warranty, has given a new charge to JSW MG Motor India’s sales.
The MG Windsor EV has sold 39,641 units in the past 10 months, up 198% YoY. Total sales since launch are 59,063 units including 46,423 units in CY2025 when it was India’s best-selling electric passenger vehicle.
No. 5 – Maruti XL6: 29,567 units, down 24%
The XL6 is the heavily modified six-seater premium avatar of the Maruti Ertiga. Billed as a proper alternative to India’s bestselling MPV, the XL6 ticks the comfort and practicality boxes with ease. It is powered by the same 1.5-litre mild-hybrid petrol engine as in the Ertiga and offers the same automatic and manual gearbox options. However, while the Ertiga maintains its supremacy at the top, the XL6’s numbers are down 24% YoY at 29,567 units which sees its ranking drop to No. 5 from No. 4 in FY2025 when it sold 37,111 units, down 18% YoY.
No. 6 – Renault Triber: 20,744 units, up 23%
While the seven-seater Renault Triber retains the No. 6 position it had amongst the Top 10 MPVs in FY2025, the difference is that it has moved into positive territory compared to a sales decline last fiscal (19,905 units, down 11%). In the April 2025-January 2026 period, the Triber has sold 20,744 units which marks a YoY increase of 23 percent.
The recent revival of demand for Renault’s sole MPV can be attributed to the launch of the new Triber on July 23, 2025. This is the first major update to the brilliantly packaged compact MPV six years after the original model’s launch.
The Triber’s much-improved showing has helped Renault India register growth in both overall passenger vehicle sales (33,478 PVs, up 3% YoY) as well as utility vehicles (29,009 UVs, up 13% YoY). The Triber, which recently surpassed 200,000 sales in India, is ranked No. 28 in the Top 30 UV ranking for the first 10 months of FY2026.
No. 7 – Toyota Rumion: 17,716 units, down 2%
The Toyota Rumion (17,716 units, down 2% YoY) has slipped two ranks to No. 7 from its No. 5 position in FY2025 (21,878 units). One of the four rebadged Maruti Suzuki models in TKM’s portfolio, this sensible, no-nonsense Maruti Ertiga-based people-mover from Toyota Kirloskar Motor had made its presence felt in the affordable MPV market last fiscal. However, in FY2026, the Rumion is feeling the heat of the competition.
No. 8 – Maruti Invicto: 2,913 units, down 13%
The Maruti Invicto MPV, which is produced by Toyota Kirloskar Motor for Maruti Suzuki under the global Suzuki-Toyota alliance, has sold 2,913 units in the past 10 months, down 13% YoY.
Maruti Suzuki had launched the Invicto – its own version of the high-selling Toyota Innova Hycross – in July 2023. Like the Innova, it is big on space, comfort and features and sold only with a strong hybrid-only engine, delivers impressive fuel economy.
Retailed from the premium Nexa channel and priced from Rs 29.39 lakh to Rs 33.57 lakh (on-road Delhi), it is designed to tap the potential of the Rs 25-plus lakh MPV market albeit the strategy doesn’t seem to have clicked.
No. 9 – Toyota Vellfire: 1,114 units, up 41%
The ultra-luxurious and pricey Toyota Vellfire is proof that even a very high sticker price for an MPV cannot dissuade buyers. Priced from Rs 1.38 crore to Rs 1.49 crore (on-road Delhi) for two variants, the XL-sized MPV has sold 1,114 units in the current fiscal’s first 10 months, up 41% YoY (April 2024-January 2025: 790 units). This leaves it just 41 units short of its FY2025 sales (1,155 units) and takes its cumulative sales since launch to 2,669 units.
The Vellfire houses a cavernous cabin that’s home to some of the best seats. A sister product to the more luxuriously appointed Lexus LM, the Vellfire is powered by a 193hp, 240Nm, 2.5-litre, four-cylinder petrol-hybrid powertrain mated to an e-CVT.
No. 10 – Kia Carnival: 732 units, down 18%
The large and luxurious Kia Carnival wraps up the Top 10 MPV list with 732 units, down 18% YoY. This model, which carries a high sticker price of Rs 75.62 lakh (on-road Delhi), had sold 1,361 units in the last six months of FY2025.
Launched in October 2024, the Kia Carnival (Limousine) builds on the legacy of its predecessor, the Kia Carnival, while offering enhanced features aimed at redefining passenger comfort. The large diesel-engined MPV scores high on comfort and flexibility and goes all out to pamper its occupants to the hilt. A key highlight is the second-row powered relaxation seats, which provide ventilation, heating, and leg support to ensure a comfortable experience for passengers.
