Even as the domestic scooter industry continues to register strong growth, demand for made-in-India scooters has hit a new high, surpassing the 600,000-units milestone for the first time. Shipments to overseas markets, at 627,684 units, up 17% YoY, in the first 11 months of FY2026 have crossed the previous best of 569,093 units in FY2025.
Given the current geopolitical turbulence, which in turn translates into lower exports in March, expect total scooter exports in FY2026 to be around 675,000 units. In the past 11 months, of the total 47,51,807 two-wheelers exported, the scooter share is 13%, while motorcycles (41,04,671 units) continue to deliver the bulk at 86%, with mopeds (19,452 units) accounting for one percent.
Honda, with 332,814 scooters, commands a 53% share of the record exports of 627,684 units in the first 11 months of FY2026. Of the eight OEMs, only Piaggio Vehicles has seen export demand decline.
Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India (HMSI), the scooter market leader in both domestic and export sales, continues to lead the charge in FY2026 with a 53% share of exports. With one month still left to be counted in the current fiscal, HMSI has dispatched 332,814 scooters in the April 2025-February 2026 period, as per SIAM data. With this, Honda has crossed its previous highest exports of 311,977 units in FY2025. HMSI exports three models: the 110c Navi (which is no longer sold in India), the Activa and the Dio. At around 50%, the Navi accounts for the bulk of the exports, with the Dio being the next most popular model in demand.
TVS Motor Co, the No. 2 scooter OEM in India, is also the second-ranked exporter. In FY2026 YTD, the company has shipped 98,398 units, up 14% YoY, giving it a 16% share. Most of the demand is for the NTorq 125, followed by the Jupiter.
Suzuki Motorcycle India has witnessed strong growth with 68,928 units, up 50% YoY, which translates into an additional 22,989 units. This gives Suzuki an 11% share, up from the 9% it had in the year-ago period. While the 125cc Burgman accounts for the majority of sales, the 125cc Access is seeing strong demand in FY2026. Suzuki also exports the Avenis.
India Yamaha Motor is ranked fourth on the export ladder-board with 66,401 units, up 4% YoY. Product-wise the Yamaha Ray is the fourth best-selling made-in-India scooter after the Honda Navi, Dio and the TVS NTorq.
