Royal Enfield Super Meteor 650 sells 14,000 units in first year since launch
Launched on January 16, 2023, the Super Meteor 650 continues to see strong demand; along with the 650 Twins, it has given Royal Enfield a 97% market share in the 500-800cc motorcycle segment in the first 10 months of FY2024.
The Royal Enfield Super Meteor 650 cruiser, which was launched in India on January 16, 2023 and turned a year old last month, has sold a total of 13,997 units till end-January 2024. This total comprises 2,293 units in the last two months of FY2023 and 11,704 units in the first 10 months of FY2024.
As per latest SIAM industry wholesale numbers for the 500cc-800cc motorcycle category, the Royal Enfield Super Meteor 650 and the 650 Twins (Interceptor 650 and Continental GT 650) have together sold a total of 26,775 units in the first 10 months of the ongoing fiscal. While the Super Meteor 650 accounts for 11,704 units, the Chennai-based company has sold 15,071 units of the 650 Twins between April 2023 and January 2024.
This sub-segment of the motorcycle industry is completely dominated by the three RE bikes – their combined sales of 26,775 units, up 82.50% YoY, in April 2023-January 2024, account for 97% of the total 27,677 units sold in the ongoing fiscal year. The remaining three percent or 902 units is made up by Triumph Motorcycles India (463 units), India Kawasaki Motors (396 units) and Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India (43 units).
The Super Meteor 650, which was first revealed at EICMA 2022, is powered by the same 648cc air- and oil-cooled parallel-twin engine that is also used in the Interceptor INT 650 and Continental GT 650 twins. The Super Meteor 650’s engine develops maximum power of 47hp at 7250rpm and 52.3 Nm torque at 5650rpm.
The Super Meteor 650 has three variants – while the entry-level Astral costs Rs 349,000, the Celestial has a price sticker of Rs 364,000 and the range-topping Interstellar Rs 379,000 (all prices, on-road Delhi).
Over 2,000 Super Meteor owners across 41 cities in India celebrated the cruiser's first anniversary.
In celebration of its first anniversary over 2,000 Super Meteor owners participated in a celebratory ride across 41 cities in India. Globally, according to the company, the Super Meteor 650 has been gaining significant traction and popularity across international markets as well. The Super Meteor is among the many motorcycles that Royal Enfield is introducing in its latest global market entry – Turkiye – in March 2024.

Royal Enfield rides towards record sales in FY2024
Meanwhile, Royal Enfield continues to maintain its strong sales momentum in the current fiscal. In January 2024, the midsize motorcycle market leader sold a total of 76,556 units in the domestic market, up 4% YoY. This takes its cumulative 10-month wholesales to 700,829 units, up 15% YoY and gives it 7% share of the overall motorcycle market which has seen sales of 9.70 million units in the same period.
