Maruti Nexa sales cross 500,000 for third fiscal in a row, Fronx closes in on Baleno in FY2026

Premium Nexa channel sells 504,409 passenger vehicles in FY2026, down 7% YoY due to a sales decline for five models including the Grand Vitara. While the Baleno held onto its No. 1 rank with 172,560 units, the Fronx compact SUV was just 197 units behind the hatchback.

Nexa, Maruti Suzuki India’s premium passenger vehicle brand and sales channel, has clocked half-a-million domestic market wholesales (factory dispatches) for the third straight fiscal year. However, growth has slowed down since FY2024 when Nexa first crossed the 500,000 milestone in a fiscal year. In FY2026, the Nexa portfolio sold 504,409 units, down 7% YoY (FY2025: 543,050 units). As a result, the Nexa share of Maruti Suzuki’s total passenger vehicle sales (18,23,129 units) has fallen to 28% from 31% in FY2025, and 32% in FY2024 which saw its highest Nexa vehicle sales (561,050 units).

FY2026 saw the Nexa portfolio lose one model (Ciaz) and gain another (e-Vitara). The recently concluded fiscal essentially saw sales of nine models – two hatchbacks (Baleno, Ignis), one sedan (Ciaz, now discontinued), five SUVs (Fronx, Grand Vitara, XL6, Jimny, e-Vitara) and one MPV (Invicto).

Wholesales stats (see data table below) reveal that of these nine Nexa models, factory dispatches fell for five – Grand Vitara, Ignis, Jimny, Invicto and Ciaz – and were flat for one (XL6). Only the Baleno (172,560 units, up 3% YoY) and the Fronx (172,363 units, up 4% YoY) were in positive territory. The Baleno’s performance, however, is considerably below its best – 202,901 units in FY2023. And the recently launched e-Vitara saw its first three months of sales albeit production is restricted for the domestic market with a focus on exports of the made-in-India zero-emission e-SUV.

Of Nexa’s nine-model portfolio in FY2026, only the Baleno, Fronx and the recently launched e-Vitara posted growth. The Baleno hatchback was ahead of the Fronx compact SUV by only 197 units.

BALENO PIPS FRONX AGAIN TO REMAIN BEST-SELLING NEXA MODEL
The stylish Baleno hatchback, launched in FY2016 and the oldest in the Nexa pack, remains the premium PV channel's best-selling product in FY2026 as well as the past 11 years since the Nexa channel’s launch. In FY2026, as it did in FY2025, the Baleno held onto its crown by a whisker albeit the lead is narrowing down year on year.

The 172,560 units, which give it a 34.21% share of Nexa sales, were just 197 units ahead of the Fronx compact SUV (172,363 units) which registered its highest-ever fiscal sales. In FY2025, the Baleno (167,161 units) had sold 945 units more than the Fronx (166,216 units).

In December 2025, the Fronx became the first Nexa SUV to register 400,000 wholesales and had a 34.17% share of Nexa sales in FY2026. Will the Fronx outsell the Baleno in FY2027 to become Nexa Model No. 1 for the first time?

The Grand Vitara midsize SUV takes third rank in FY2026 with 83,849 units, down sharply by 32% YoY (FY2025: 123,946 units). This lack-lustre performance, which translates into 40,097 fewer units YoY, has effectively dragged down overall numbers for the Nexa channel in FY2026.

It is likely that the launch of the Grand Vitara-based and lower-priced Victoris midsize SUV, sold from the mainstream Maruti Arena channel, has eaten into this Nexa SUV’s sales. In the seven months since launch, the Victoris sold 75,611 units.

The fourth-ranked Nexa model is the XL6. This MPV registered flat sales in FY2026 with 37,159 units, just 48 units more than in FY2025. It is followed by the Ignis hatchback (22,924 units), down 16% YoY on FY2025’s 27,438 units. At No. 6 is the Jimny SUV which sold 6,675 units – 2,065 fewer units than in FY2025 – to post a decline of 24% YoY.

At No. 7 is the only new Nexa model launched in FY2026 – the Maruti e-Vitara. Between January and March 2026, Maruti Suzuki’s first EV, which is manufactured at the Gujarat plant, saw factory dispatches of 3,652 units comprising 528 units in January, 870 units in February and 2,254 units in March.

The Invicto MPV, based on the Toyota Innova Hycross and produced by Toyota Kirloskar Motor for Maruti Suzuki under the global Suzuki-Toyota alliance, saw wholesales of 3,247 units, down 20% YoY. The Ciaz, which has been discontinued, sold 1,980 units in the first four months of FY2026.

Maruti Suzuki India remains bullish on growth at Nexa amidst growing competition for premium vehicle buyers. On February 27 this year, India’s largest passenger vehicle manufacturer and market leader inaugurated its 200th Nexa Studio outlet.

The 740-strong Nexa sales channel, currently spread across over 530 cities in India, essentially comprises two formats: Nexa main outlet and Nexa Studio outlet. Maruti Suzuki has outlined an aggressive expansion strategy for Nexa Studio outlets, aiming to set up 600 facilities by end-FY2031.
