Maruti Grand Vitara crosses 400,000 sales, second Nexa SUV after Fronx to hit milestone
Launched in September 2022, the Maruti Grand Vitara has taken 46 months to become the second Nexa SUV after the Fronx to achieve 400,000 sales. It is the second-fastest midsize SUV in India to achieve this milestone after the second-gen Hyundai Creta which took just 25 months.
The Grand Vitara has become the latest SUV from the Maruti Suzuki stable to surpass the 400,000 wholesales milestone in the domestic market at the end of June 2026. The premium midsize SUV, retailed from the Maruti Nexa channel has, from launch in September 2022 till end-June 2026, clocked total sales of 401,007 units. Around 62,500 units have also been exported.
The Maruti Grand Vitara’s 400,000 milestone has taken 46 months from launch. This is 21 months more than what the new second-generation Hyundai Creta, which took just 25 months after launch in January 2024 to achieve the same milestone.
As SIAM wholesales data reveals (see data table below), the Grand Vitara sold 51,315 units in the last seven months of FY2023, followed by 121,169 units in FY2024 (up 136% YoY) and 123,946 units (up 2% YoY), in FY2025. FY2026 though saw a sharp fall of 32% YoY to 83,849 units. FY2026 is witnessing a revival of demand and sales in the first quarter (April-June 2026: 20,728 units) are up 8% YoY.
Grand Vitara's Fastest-to-Milestone Track Record
FY2025 with 123,946 units was the best fiscal for the Maruti Grand Vitara which, with total sales of 401,007 units, is the second best-selling Nexa SUV after the Maruti Fronx (525,964 units).
The Maruti Grand Vitara had a chequered run till the 300,000 milestone. It was the fastest in the midsize SUV segment to the 100,000-units mark, taking just 12 months from market entry. It was also the fastest midsize SUV to achieve the 250,000 milestone, in line with its 200,000 sales which it achieved in 22 months, bettering the first-generation Hyundai Creta which took 25 months to achieve the same milestone. The run from 200,001 to 300,000 in early April 2025 took a similar 10-month timeframe and the Grand Vitara won the title of the being the fastest midsize SUV to the 300,000 milestone, news which Autocar Professional broke.
Grand Vitara vs Maruti Victoris: Why Growth Slowed
However, the fourth round of 100,000 sales to reach the 400,000 milestone has taken a little over 14 months. This slower run could be attributed to the new Maruti Victoris midsize SUV selling 100,165 units in just 10 months, having debuted from the mass-market Arena sales channel in August 2025 and shares its platform and powertrains with the Grand Vitara. The Victoris (priced from Rs 10.50 lakh to Rs 19.99 lakh, ex-showroom) is marginally cheaper than the Grand Vitara (Rs 10.77 lakh to Rs 19.57 lakh, ex-showroom).
Grand Vitara Rivals: How It Stacks Up in Q1 FY2027
The Grand Vitara, which has sold 20,728 units in Q1 FY2027, is part of the hotly contested midsize SUV segment dominated by the segment leader Hyundai Creta (37,694 units), Kia Seltos (30,817 units), Toyota Hyryder (26,883 units), Thar Roxx and the Mahindra 7XO (27,210 units).
Grand Vitara Engine and Powertrain Options
