The made-in-India passenger vehicle export business has opened on a good note in FY2026. In April 2025, as per SIAM industry data, a total of 59,395 cars, SUVs and MPVs were shipped overseas which is a YoY increase of 20% (April 2024: 49,563 units).
Maruti Suzuki India, which has been India’s No. 1 passenger vehicle exporter for the past four fiscals, has opened FY2026 on a strong note with overseas shipments of 27,729 units, up 26% YoY (April 2024; 21,964 units).
Hyundai Motor India has also done well to ship 16,400 cars and SUVs last month, up 21% (April 2024: 13,500 units).
Volkswagen India, which was ranked fifth in FY2025, is in third place with 2,712 units, up 35% YoY.
Mahindra & Mahindra exported 2,530 SUVs in April 2025, up 365% YoY on a low year-ago base of 544 units, driven by overseas demand for its flagship SUV, the XUV700 (1,696 units) and the XUV 3XO (628 units). Both models also command strong demand in the domestic market.
Toyota Kirloskar Motor, in similar manner, has moved up the ranks with 2,496 units and a YoY increase of 39% with the model in demand being the Hyryder midsize SUV.
Kia India is ranked sixth on the PV export scale with 2,304 units, up 5% YoY. Its best-selling export models ast month were the Sonet, Carens and the Seltos.
Honda Cars India, which was the fourth-ranked PV exporter in FY2025, is ranked No. 7 in April with 1,511 units, down 77% YoY (April 2024: 6,516 units) with exports sales down for all three models: Elevate, City, and Amaze.
Nissan Motor India is at No. 8 position with 2,170 Magnites exported, up 240% YoY on a low year-ago exports of 639 units.
REVEALED: TOP 10 MADE-IN-INDIA EXPORT CARS AND SUVs
The Top 10 export models in April 2025 account for 39,541 units or 66% of the total PV exports last month. Leading the charge is the Maruti Fronx with 7,055 units, which is a 231% YoY increase, benefiting from demand from Suzuki Motor Corp, Japan. The Fronx (69,133 units) was FY2025’s No. 1 made-in-India export model in FY2025.
In second place, for April, is the Hyundai Verna sedan with 5,741 units and 28% YoY growth. In FY2025, the Verna (52,615 units) had wrested the crown from the Maruti Baleno. The Verna is currently in its sixth generation and sees demand in Hyundai’s key global markets.
The Maruti Jimny, which is also benefiting from robust demand from the Japanese market where the five-door model is sold as the Nomade, is in third place with 5,671 units.
The Hyundai Grand i10 hatchback with 4,229 units (up 45%) is ranked fourth in the Top 10 export model listing and is followed by sedan sibling, the Aura (3,431 units).
The Maruti Baleno premium hatchback comes in at sixth position with 3,418 units, with demand down 10% YoY. Its Swift sibling (3,083 units) is next with demand up 18% YoY.
The Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder midsize SUV, which is Toyota Kirloskar Motor’s second best-selling product after the Innova MPV in the domestic market, is ranked No. 8 with 2,491 units, up 39% YoY.
The Maruti Dzire (2,301 units) and the Volkswagen Virtus (2,121 units) wrap up the Top 10 PV export models list for April 2025.ALSO READ:
