The Maruti Ertiga, which is both India’s and Maruti Suzuki’s best-selling MPV, has driven past the cumulative 1.5 million-units wholesales milestone. Between March 2012 and August 2026, the Ertiga has clocked total sales of 15,13,574 units and contributed 7% to the company’s 21.39 million passenger vehicles and 33% to the 4.63 million Maruti Suzuki utility vehicles sold in the past 14-and-a-half years.
Of the estimated 120 PVs sold in the country, the Maruti Ertiga is, at present, the highest-selling model in terms of volumes and is ahead of other ‘millionaires’ like the Hyundai Creta (1.49 million), Maruti Brezza (1.48 million), new Wagon R (1.42 million) and the Tata Nexon (1.12 million).
The Ertiga, along with the Brezza compact SUV, has been instrumental in making Maruti Suzuki the UV market leader for the past nine fiscal years from FY2018. That fiscal saw Maruti (253,759 UVs) wrest the UV OEM No. 1 title from longstanding segment leader Mahindra & Mahindra (233,915 SUVs), a crown which it had firmly held onto since then.
The Ertiga, Maruti Suzuki India's first crack at the MPV segment and sold from the mass-market Maruti Arena retail channel, continues to win over buyers, and has been India’s No. 1 MPV for the past eight fiscals. From FY2013, when it only had the Gypsy SUV for company and accounted for 96% (76,375 units) of Maruti Suzuki’s total UV sales of 79,192 units, to a record 198,327 units in FY2026, the Ertiga has come a long way.
The Ertiga’s highest ranking in the UV segment has been No. 3 in FY2020, FY2022, FY2025 and FY2026. In FY2026, it lost out to the Tata Nexon (216,054 units) and the Hyundai Creta (201,921 units).
This popular family transporter, which is sold with petrol and CNG powertrains, remains Maruti Suzuki’s No. 1 UV model in the current fiscal. In FY2027’s first five months, the Ertiga has sold 95,646 units, up 18% YoY) to be ahead of sibling Fronx (90,853 units) with a 25% share of Maruti Suzuki’s 376,781 UVs sold between April-August 2026.
Ertiga: India's No. 1 People-Mover
Pricing for the 9-variant Maruti Suzuki Ertiga, powered by 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol and CNG engines, starts at Rs 890,000 for the 1.5 petrol LXi MT and goes up to Rs 13.04 lakh for the 1.5 petrol ZXi+ AT (both ex-showroom). Currently in its second generation, the Ertiga has a claimed mileage of 20.3kpl to 26.11 km/kg as per ARAI testing. Its main rivals are the Kia Carens and the Toyota Rumion, both of which sell in far less numbers each month than the Ertiga.
The Ertiga is essentially a value-focussed seven-seater built for buyers who seek space and low running costs over outright excitement. Having missed this milestone by a whisker – just 1,673 units – in FY2026, the Ertiga looks set to cross the 200,000 wholesales mark for the first time in a fiscal in FY2027. With 95,646 units sold in the past five months, including its highest monthly sales since launch – 21,606 units in July 2026 – the Ertiga should go on to surpass sales of 225,000 units in FY2027. This strong performance from Maruti Suzuki’s best-selling UV will also ensure that the company, which has sold 376,781 UVs in April-August 2026 will go on to beat its record UV sales of 760,987 units in FY2026.
