Hyundai Creta to Tata Curvv: Top 10 midsize SUVs in April 2025

The utility vehicle (UV) segment continues to be the pillar of the overall passenger vehicle (PV) market in India. April 2025, with 348,847 units and 4% YoY growth, was the best-ever April yet for the PV industry. That’s thanks to the UV which, as it is wont to do, continues to admirably buffer the sustained decline in hatchback and sedan sales. While the compact SUV segment and its best-selling models draw the bulk of the buyers, over the past year the midsize SUV market has proven to be a big draw.

That’s one good reason why the UV industry is seeing a growing number of new model introductions, three of which have found place in the 10 best-selling midsize SUV list for April 2025. Here’s taking a closer look at their wholesale numbers.

While the Hyundai Creta remains India’s longstanding No. 1 midsize SUV, the twin Scorpios remain Mahindra's best-selling model. The all-electric MG Windsor has plugged into the best-selling model list.

No. 1 – Hyundai Creta: 17,016 units, up 10%
The Hyundai Creta, which is India’s longstanding No. 1 midsize SUV, topped the UV chart in April 2025 with sales of 17,016 units. While this makes for a 10% YoY increase (April 2024: 15,447 units), it is down 6% month-on-month (March 2025: 18,059 units). It was felt that the Creta’s sales would further accelerate with the launch of the Creta Electric earlier this year but that has not happened. Nevertheless, the Creta has opened FY2026 on a good note as the best-selling UV per se and also maintains its numero uno status as India’s No. 1 midsize SUV. In FY2025, the Creta was ranked UV No. 2 (194,871 units) after the Tata Punch ompact SUV.

No. 2 – Mahindra Scorpio: 15,534 units, up 5%
Mahindra & Mahindra’s best-selling SUV continues to be the Scorpio midsize SUV in the form of the popular Scorpio N and the Scorpio Classic. The 15,534 units sold in April were a 5% YoY increase (April 2024: 14,807 units) and accounted for a 30% share of M&M’s 52,330 SUVs sold last month. In FY2025, the Scorpio twins sold a total of 164,842 units and were ranked sixth on the overall UV scale. April 2025 has them at No. 4 position.

No. 3 – Mahindra Bolero: 8,360 units, down 12%
The Mahindra Bolero brand, comprising the Bolero, Bolero Neo and Bolero Neo Plus, has clocked wholesales of 8,360 units in April 2025, down 12% YoY (April 2024: 9,537 units). The Bolero, which is sold only with a diesel powertrain, continues to have its fan following and remains a popular buy.

No. 4 – Maruti Grand Vitara: 7,154 units, down 6%
Demand for the Maruti Grand Vitara seems to be slowing down. April 2025’s 7,154 units are down 6% YoY (April 2024: 7,651 units). On April 8, the company launched the updated MY2025 version equipped with six airbags as standard across all variants and a number of new safety, comfort and convenience features. It is understood that there is a three-row Grand Vitara in the pipeline but it won’t be available till end-2025.

In FY2025, the GV sold 123,946 units – up just 2% YoY (FY2024: 121,169 units) – to be the second best-selling Nexa-marketed SUV after the Maruti Fronx compact SUV

No. 5 – Mahindra XUV700: 6,811 units, up 11%
Mahindra & Mahindra’s feature-laden and big-on-safety flagship SUV, which is available with petrol and diesel engines and over 40 variants, remains a top draw for executive SUV buyers. The XUV700 sold 6,811 units last month, up 11% (April 2024: 6,134 units) and comprised 5,296 diesel and 1,515 petrol variants.

In FY2025, this flagship SUV clocked sales of 93,082 units, up 17% YoY (FY2024: 79,398 units), giving the model a 17% share of M&M’s record SUV sales of 551,487 units.

No. 6 – Mahindra Thar Roxx: 6,422 units (estimated) NEW MODEL
The five-door Thar Roxx has sold an estimated 6,811 units which constitutes 60% of total Thar brand sales of 10,703 units, with the rest accruing to the three-door Thar. The five-door Thar Roxx, which won Autocar India’s Car of the Year 2025 award, appeals to a wider target audience as a more practical and more mainstream product than the already popular three-door Thar and has also taken the battle into many a rival’s camp.

Combined sales of the Thar Roxx and the Thar of 10,703 units are up 74% (April 2024: 6,160 units) and accounted for a 20% share of M&M’s sales of 52,330 SUVs last month, compared to 15% in April 2024 when the Thar 3-door SUV was the only model on sale. The Thar brand drove past cumulative sales of 250,000 units last month.

No. 7 – Kia Seltos: 6,135 units, down 9%
The Seltos midsize SUV, Kia’s first product in India which helped make a relatively unknown Korean brand in the country in 2019 a household name, continues to feet the heat of the growing midsize SUV competition. In April 2025, the Seltos clocked 6,135 units – 599 fewer than it did a year ago (April 2024: 6,734 units), which is reflected in the 9% YoY decline. In FY2025, the Seltos’ 72,618 units were down by a substantial 28% YoY.

No. 8 – Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder: 4,642 units, up 43%
Along with its own products, Toyota Kirloskar Motor’s resurgence in the UV market in the past two years is being driven by the four Maruti-rebadged models led by the Urban Cruiser Hyryder. In April 2025, the Toyota Hyryder sold 4,632 units, which makes for a YoY increase of 43% and accounts for 19% of TKM’s 24,833 passenger vehicles.

In FY2025, the Hyryder clocked 60,388 units, up 23% YoY, and was the company’s best-selling Maruti-rebadged model last fiscal. This model’s USP is its strong-hybrid petrol powertrain, aimed to fill the void created by the lack of a diesel engine and to also bridge the gap between petrol and EVs.

No. 9 – MG Windsor EV: 3,660 units, NEW MODEL
Visual proof of the growing consumer demand for any vehicle is it being seen regularly on the road. That’s just what is being witnessed about the MG Windsor EV, the cool-looking product that has taken the battle into electric passenger vehicle market leader Tata Motors’ camp.

Launched in end-September 2024, the tech-laden, spacious five-seater, all-electric MPV, which comes with a range of segment-first features, lounge-like seating and a lifetime battery warranty, has given a new charge to JSW MG Motor India’s sales.
